If so, what do you carry and how do you carry it?
Is that with business attire, working clothes, weekend clothes...?

When I'm working around home/farm I carry a handmade and forged Roselli "carpenter's knife" on my hip.
When hunting, usually a MadPoet custom fixed blade (by the late Mel Sorg jr).
Folders are for dress and business clothes.
I have in the past, carried a fixed blade Boguszewski (Wegner design) concealed.

Anytime I'm out I carry an Al Polkowski Kasper Bulldog. Normally I carry it IWB strongside or in a crossdraw setup. In the winter I carry it in a shoulder rig or mounted to a shoulder holster system. I have several different carry systems so I can always carry the knife no matter what attire is required for the occasion.

I used to before I got my baton. You can carry a really big knife under anything better than swim wear if you do it right.

Yes. A 4" Laci Szabo Jaws. All the time. Even dressed nicely. Like so.
Believe I got Blade Tech to do the sheath. IWB with the supplied rubber strap.

Only when I am out hiking in the woods. Usually it is in neck rig. I do have new kydex sheath being made for my Bark River Mikro Canadian. In terms of fix blades it is usually just a fix blade knife with a 2-3 inch blade.

Scot's carried sgian dubhs in their armpits and tucked into their socks! If they still did, maybe they wouldn't have crime problems. http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=sgian+dubh&spell=1

My EDC knife is a small Mora carried in a carpenter or cargo pocket.
I also have a Frost's Clipper that I carry by tucking it into a hip pocket and then hooking the sheath clip onto the coin pocket (works better on some jeans than others).

Just about the only time I bother with a folding knife is when I'm wearing dress pants.

While I like knives- especially large ones- I do not believe daily carry of a FB is a
good choice for most Americans. Exceptions would be those who work or are operating in a capacity in which a FB would naturally fit: certain types of construction, hunters or fishers, etc.

It makes perfect sense anywhere it is legal. Fixed blades are potentially stronger, faster to get into action and more fumble resistant than any folder. Like the open carry pistol it is probably ill suited to formal dress, but it simply boils down to State or local law IMO.

I periodically carry a 2.75 neck knife around town, but usually my fixed blade carry is limited to times when I am engaged in outdoor sports.

I decided I wanted something more effective and faster to deploy than a folder, and since I couldn't make up my mind I bought several: Kabar, Cold Steel Tanto, and a CRKT Cold Steel. I've been carrying the last since I got it, and am happy with it. Yeah, it's made in Taiwan, but it'll do the job when needed. For ordinary tasks, I have a Victorinox that goes everywhere with me (well, except on the plane :fire: ).

Respectfully, I do not at all agree. I think you are much more likely to be viewed askance by LEO when carrying a FB, especially in your super-kewl tactical carry mode, than when carrying a folder.

Carrying a fixed blade in this town will probably have you talking to a cop faster than anything else. CCW in all the casinos in the Strip, but do not carry a fixed blade!
JShirley makes good points worth reading again.
Out fishing, I carry a Rapela fillet knife, I am fond of the 4" one. Fishing may mean out on the farm pond, or streams or ...
I have lost my Case Trout & Bird knife, this again was a favorite for when out on the property, fishing, hunting, general "property" duties. Nobody thought anything when I went into the small town. Small town of ranchers, farmers, - country folks.
Everyone in these settings wears a knife of somekind, I was /am in the Case Trout & Bird / Case Mako Shark camp.
Others wear Buck 110s and Buck fixed knives. Case I am partial to and they fit my hands better. This is what the working folks use, what the hardware store carries...practical - not tactical.
Old Hickory carbon steel Utility and Paring knives. I think I pay $1. 98 and $2.49 respectfully for these. Wood handles, carbon steel and take / hold a great edge.
I drill a hole in the handle, sometimes put a pc a leather thru it....cardboard for a sheath , and use around the yard. Known to keep one in a office desk for meal duties and such. Makes a great letter opener, and I had cigar tube that worked as sheath. Wouldn't want to cut myself reaching into my desk...or heading to break room.
Old Hickory knives in bigger sizes a staple in the Country too, from kitchens, to work sheds, to tractors to "momma's Buick". She might get a hankering to slice a 'mater off the vine, or fix that cantelope/ watermellon for the young'uns down under a shade tree with the picnic table.
Just some guy needing a fixed blade for a legitimate use is all I am.

Carrying a fixed blade knife will result in negative attention from the law.
Open carry of a firearm will make you the first person shot in the event of a robbery.
Civilians don't need more than 10 rounds.
Guns are only good for killing people.
The Second Amendment refers to a collective right, not an individual right.
Heavier-than-air flight is impossible.
Phlogiston is the only reasonable answer.

Other fixed blades I sometimes EDC:
BM210 Snody
Burke Necker
Simonich Crowfoot
Strider ED
Blackwood SemiCustom Henchman
and I have a lil 3" bladed tapered tang S30V blade I made myself that gets some carry time.

I carry a Kershaw BlackOut in my work overalls.
I carry a CUDA 7" Darrel Ralph folder clipped in my casuall pants front rt. pocket out and about. It is totally Kali legal and has a 7" D2 blade instantly available!
I carry a Mad Dog VooDoo Cat 6" on my tactical harness belt.
Around the ranch it is a Mad Dog 4.5" Pack Rat. The ultimate heavy duty chore knife on a belt.
Slipped in a pocket of sweats to run outside or around home chores without a belt ect.is a John Greco Companion 4" in a pouch sheath.
Out jeeping or camping it's a Mad Dog Sitka 10" - now THATS a knife!
Out hunting mammals it's a Wyoming Hunter Tool , and a 7" John Greco Bowie with matching mini hatchet. This will be replaced soon by a Mad Dog baby Rhino skinner and my Mad Dog Rezine 2000 9" slaughtering knife!
Out upland Bird hunting I usually break out the Loveless drop point 3 5/8" to go with the classy guns ect;)
When I go to sleazy places I don't want to be the Polkowski 5" Kasper Fighter ultra slim kydex clip on goes along with CCW'd fire arms.If firearms are not appropriate the Kasper stays:D Also goes jogging and biking.

Carry a big Victorinox on the belt, and the fixed blade either on the shoulder (under a polo) or on the ankle, upside-down. You can go for it when tying your shoe... theoretically, anyway.

When I am going someplace that disallows handguns, I sometimes carry an old Cold Steel "Urban Skinner". For those of you not familiar with this knife, it is what is known as a "punch knife". Basically, it has a T-shaped handle that is gripped with the blade protruding between the middle and ring fingers. Most knives of this sort are double-edged with fairly thin blades - great for stabbing, but not so great for cutting. Also, most have blades over 3-1/2" long, and combined with a double edge this can cause trouble legally. The Urban Skinner, however, has a 2-1/2" long, broad, single-edged blade (with a semi-sharpened false edge) that is nearly 1/4" thick. Not much for deep penetration, but it is capable of making wide, gaping wounds, and it will take a sharp edge for slashing while still being strong enough to punch through someone's skull or ribs. It is also VERY concealable. If clipped to the inside top of your waistband with the clip under your belt, the black rubber grip is barely visible even if your shirt is tucked in. You can stand there, looking very nonchalant with your thumbs tucked inside the top of your waistband, and have the knife out in a split second. The way it is held makes it a bit more difficult for someone to dislodge it from your grasp, too.

I don't worry about it much, JTW, since the .45 is nearby and concealed. When we go down to the Strip (not often), Security really tends to put the stank eye on me and even hang out near me. Then the wife will show up and they relax. I would not wear a visible fixed blade anywhere near there. Besides, I make 'em but don't wear 'em. :D

When i go fishing its usually in city limits, so i carry a SOG Field Pup on my belt and for a folder i carry my Cold Steel Ti-Lite. Inside the city here, fishing late at night can make you stand out big time. i also carry police issue mace. carrying ANYTHING here can get you in trouble but id rather not be dead or raped. When hunting i carry either my CRKT Komodo 7, my Cold Steel ODA, or my Colt Combat Commander.

If I'm out camping, hiking, fishing, hunting in the wilderness sure I usually carry a fixed blade, though in most siturations around here I would get in real trouble being so armed so most the time I carry a good strong folder like a butterfly knife.

I carry a 1911 strong side, two reloads off side, a TDI 3" foreward of my reloads and a Kubotan in my left front pocket, keys outside. All are covered by a polo shirt, XL T-shirt or sport coat, depending on dress for the day.
Unless you go around doing stupid things, you're no more likely to incurr the scrutiny of a LEO than by wearing pink fuzzy bunny slippers. Just my opinion.

I have carried a number of FB's over the years open and concealed. These days I carry a SOG Seal. I removed and inverted the belt clip on the scabbard so that it can be carried ITW. Works great for me. YMMV

The butterfly knife, or balisong, is illegal to carry in many states. Be sure you've checked your state and local laws.

Fixed blades don't always mean trouble. I live in a city that bans locking folders, but not fixed blades, so I can break the law (rarely enforced, but there have been cases of arrests for folder carry) or carry a fixed blade.
I choose to carry a small, flat, sturdy little single-edged pocket knife, made from a blade from Jantz Supply. I made a Kydex scabbard, and the setup is so light and thin that I hardly know I have it with me. It has cut a ton of cardboard, tape, string, rope, and even food. It's a very useful little knife, and no one ever knows it's there. I also have a non-locking folder -- a tiny SwissTech UTILI-KEY -- that can be used anywhere without alarming the sheeple.
I don't advocate fixed blades as the best choice for everyone, but I find a small fixed blade to be a very useful EDC knife.

Edited to add:
For self-defense, I'm actually more likely to reach for a pen than for a knife. I carry an all-metal Pentel Client, and it's easy to reach and can be quite effective. No one ever gives it a second look, even when it's in my hand. Someone looking for an idea of the pen as a fighting tool should watch "The Bourne Identity" and "Casino."
In a phone booth, the pen is mightier than the sword.

If you like a fixed blade, but need to be discreet, you can't beat this guy's work:

I have worn one regularly for a decade.. unless I need a heavier belt.

I occasionally carry a Gerber Bolt tucked into my left boot, in addition to my folders.
In MT my CCW specifically says "a concealed firearm or knife", so I don't think it will be a big deal.
