Red Dot on a PC9

I have purchased a PC9 and want to put a red dot on it but cannot decide which to get. Should I get a sight with a single size dot (4 MOA) or a multidot. I can get an Ultra Dot for about $120, a Millett Multidot (SP model) for $120, a Redfield ESD (Multi)for $140 or an Ultr Dot multi for $165. Is the Multi dot worth the extra money in terms of the Ultra Dot? Is a Millett Multi a better choice than an Ultra Dot single?
This will be for plinking and the house.
I am so confused. :(

I have a PC9 with a Leupold red dot on it. I don't remember the model number and I can't find any red dots on their web page. I am using an Aimpoint ML2 on my AR and it is fantastic as far as I am concerned. It has a 4 MOA dot and I have had no problem hitting human sized steel silhouettes at 400 yards. I have never used a mutidot and don't know what it is. I would buy a 4 MOA dot and be perfectly satisfied.
I bought an adapter from Jack Weigand to adapt the Ruger base to a Weaver rail.

For inside the house and short range plinking, the larger dot will probably work fine.
I have an SP 1 Millet with what they are calling a 3MOA dot on an International 10/22 without any improvements. Took it to the range today and found that the dot covers at least 3" @ 50 yards which would translate to 6moa dot.:( Given the proper size target, not a problem, however, as it produces 1 1/4" groups.
Have been looking at the Gilmore which is available in a 2moa, and if I'm not mistaken, even a 1moa dot. The larger dot is not a problem at shorter ranges, but might cover more target than desireable for long range shooting??.

Leupold no longer sells a red dot sight, but the Leupold=Gilmore sight is still available from Gilmore @

In fact they are currently on sale.
Where is your Aimpoint mounted on your AR? If forward of the handle, I would suspect the 4moa dot would appear smaller on the sillhouette target than it would if mounted closer to the eye.
How much of the sillhouette is covered by the dot?
Reason I ask is that I am considering mounting a red dot on my M1 Garand. Have figured out how to make a mounting block that would replace the rear sight and require no drilling or other alterations to the rifle, but have encountered two problems. One is dot size, the other is overall length of available sights. Tasco used to market the the Optima, which is still available from the manufacturer and it is only 1.5" long. That will work, but the problem is it has a 4moa dot which (if actually is 4moa, would cover 12" @ 300 yds). I think I would prefer a smaller dot for finer aiming at ranges out to 300 yds or more since it will be mounted so close to the eye on the Garand.
The Optima is available @ https://www.eabco.com/jpoint01.html

The dot on my AR is mounted on the "hump" of a KAC RAS II which would put it about half off the flat top or pretty much centered over the handguard slip ring. At 200 the dot is about as wide as a human torso silhouette target. I put the upper edges of the dot on the "shoulders" of the target. I fired some groups on paper last weekend and probably shot something like a five inch group at 200 from the prone position. At 400 the dot is wider than the torso of a silhouette, but you just concentrate on the bottom edge of the dot (for holdover). This past weekend I was shooting in some pretty high winds and held about even with the head over the targets right shoulder and hit 7 out of 8 at 400 from the prone.
An idea that I never thought of is to use the top of the dot as a precision aiming point similar to using a six o'clock hold with iron sights. Then at close range you just use the dot on the target and the difference in zero won't matter up close. I personally chose to still use the center of the dot as my aiming point and seem to have good luck with it.
The Leupold red dot that I have is a Leupold/Gilmore sight. It was the more expensive of two models that they offered at the time. I don't remember why I chose the more expensive model now.

Thanks for the feedback. Hadn't thought of using the dot as you would a bead on a front sight, but that would probably work well for longer shots. Doesn't sound like you are having any problems with yours!:)
My 67 year old eyes are balking at iron sights and I tried a red dot for the first time on the 10/22. It worked quite well. Have caught a lot of flack for even thinking about one on a Garand, but think it will get the old gal out of the safe again and that's a good thing.
So far, the only sight I have found that will give sufficient eye relief (not hit my glasses in prone position) and clear the clip slots on the Garand is the Optima. May just have to break down and order one and see if it will work.
