I'm not trying to rehash the whole RRA vs BM vs etc..

I've kind of calculated that i could assemble a BM for $920, RRA for $846, J&T for $674:what:

Is J&T of the same quality as the ABC's? Could i expect the same accuracy out of the JT Bull Barrel Kit, as i would out of the RRA Varment 24" upper?

I just put together a JT kit carbine, fit and finish is much better than the Oly and DPMS carbines I looked @. Same deal, I could build one about $400 cheaper than I could buy.

To be honest I can't tell a diff...all three look and shoot great. If you go the J&T route pop the extra $$$ for the Chrome lined bore.

Not to throw ANOTHER option at you, but Model 1 Sales (http://www.model1sales.com/) has a great reputation for value.

Most of the parts, especially the internals, are only made by a couple of places, and everyone (including the ABC's) uses them.

It's a subject of GREAT debate, but J&T uses FN parts, which are the same parts that our military uses in their rifles.

I gotta stop reading these "build it yourself cheap" threads, or I'm going to talk myself right out of a Beretta Storm, and right back into a homemade 9mm AR! :D

You might want to check out WWW.sableco.net. The prices for RRA rifles and uppers are pretty good: complete A2 rifle or carbine with NM trigger is $725, A4 is $700. A complete 16" or 20" A2 upper is $392, A4 is $370. Add a complete lower with standard trigger for $220 or NM lower for $310 and you've got a pretty inexpensive rifle...A2 for $612 or A4 for $590. That's how I got my 16" midlength carbine. Don't know if you'd have to order the upper and lower separately to avoid FET or not.

By the way, I'm not associated with them in any way except being a satisfied customer.

Edited because I can't spell "A4".;)

subject of GREAT debate, but J&T uses FN parts

i know you were pointing out a much respected company but since you posted that i feel i should post WHY there is a Debate.

the debate centers around the fact that FN is NOT allowed to sell AR parts on the civilian market. ALL of their production from the SC plant goes to Military contracts, or if it's under spec it's destroyed.

granted there may BE a few contractors that FN is farming out some of the small internal part production to, but that is NOT the same as "made by FN" and the receivers you see on the market are most definately NOT from FN.
BTW if anyone ever tries to tell you a Bolt carrier they are selling is an FN part, even if they're not lying, that part is trouble! Appearently some portions of the BATF have decided that "M-16 part = M-16" and FN again does NOT make parts for AR-15s all their production is for the M-16 contract(s)

oh and to answer the original questions, never heard of much of a problem with J&T, personally i'm going with RRA for most of my needs, since they have uppers and parts that fill my needs AND i have a local FFL that will sell them to me at good prices.

From the "FWIW" department, when I got my AR, I went to one of the local shows here in Nashville, got a CAV-15 lower, and since they had an "arrangement" with J&T, I went to their booth. When I chose my upper, they told me it was a Wilson upper. Their catalog says they are FN uppers, so... I'm not really sure.

I will say I was a bit bothered by the fact that with the rear sight on the removable handle in the center, POI was to the right of POA. Even with the rear sight cranked all the way toward the left side, it still hit right; and this was at 25 yards. I have removed the handle, and scoped it now. I have yet to sight it in, but I'm sure it will be better... wouldn't it have to be?
