Finally brought my new S&W 19 home today.

The 4" S&W 19 with a pinned barrel and recessed cylinders that I bought a couple weeks ago finally came home with me today. It is every bit as beautiful as I remembered.
It was probably somebody's bedside gun for 30yrs. The blueing is perfect and very well polished, except for two small spots on the cylinder where it probably made contact with the drawer where it was kept all this time. The barrel looks like it has been shot, but not much, the chambers have a little bit of fouling and the forcing cone looks as if it was never fired. Lock up was very solid, timing seems to be perfect. I'm guessing it maybe had a box of ammo shot through it when the previous owner first bought it and maybe a cylinder a year after that.
I can't wait to get a chance to shoot it. I probably won't be able to shoot it until Monday, but I'll be sure to post a range report here as soon as I do.

I picked up a 19-3 P&R`d 4" at a gunshow a few weeks ago. Real nice shape and at $227 OTD I couldn`t pass it up.:D

So when are you going to join us at the NRA range for a shoot? Not a bad idea. It is in Fairfax, correct? I guess it is about an hour away (plus or minus about 15min), two at rush hour. Saturdays are out as are Fri evenings, Sundays are possible but I'd need to know a week or so in advance because I study Torah on Sundays. After work during the week may be possible if planned in advance (I'd have to leave before rush hour starts, hitting both Baltimore and DC rush hour on both beltways would really be nasty).

Model 19...I remember last year finding one in a garage sale, NIB for $350 and trying to talk the guy down to $275...no dice....
Now I hope the guy runs a garage sale again...

Model 19, very nice revolvers! Feed it decent quality ammo and don't beat it to death and you will never be disappointed. My model 19 was a police trade in and it looks it! Exterior is rough, rusty back strap, scratches, holster wear, but the interior was great. For $150, I think I did ok and that included a nice set of Herret's target stocks.

Cool!
If Surplus City had a Model 19 in stock when I was there last Thursday, it might have accompanied me home instead of my Model 14-3. I did pass up a couple Model 66-2s, since I am not into stainless guns (except for my 640).
Got a pic?

A very good friend carried his Model 19 for 15+ years on the beat. When he retired, he sold it to me. Now I have owned it for almost that long.
The revolver is still in almost new condition. No dings, scratches, or rust. This is one handgun I will never get rid of.

Chaim,
Yep, Fairfax, just off of 66.
That's right, you're Orthodox. I'll try to keep that in mind next time I put one of these together.

I got my first model 19 a few months back at a gunshow for $285 OTD. It is the target version with the TT, TH, Partridge front sight, target grips , and built in trigger stop. It is in 97% plus condition with the only blue loss at the tip of the muzzle on each side, not deep enough or polished enough to be holster wear, just from being put in and out of a case I think.
This is how I like to buy used guns. I like it when the are slightly used.

19's are a true classic, I think 10-15 years from now people are gonna be kicking themselves blue for passing up these guns at @$300.
Have a 4" 19 I love just back from S/W with a new patridge type front sight installed. Qualified today with my 2 1/2" 19. Out of 18 shooters it was the only blued gun on the range. Guess who got highscore:D

I finally got to take it to the range today. Man, now I know why some of you guys love your Model 19s so much.
I went to the range with a friend of mine and we put 100 rounds (all the .357 I had) through it and my 586 (for comparison, but the 19 had a bit more because we didn't break out the 586 until about halfway through the first box).
Accuracy seemed good. I haven't shot very much in the past few months so my accuracy wasn't what it used to be but I can't blame that on the gun (and it still wasn't bad). The wide target hammer doesn't really bother me but I'm still unsure about the wide target trigger (the thing is around 2 1/2-3x the size of the triggers on my 586 and 65LS). Timing was, of course, perfect, it was very smooth and it just felt great. Compared to the L-frame the recoil was, of course, a bit stronger, but it was certainly within comfortable levels (just about perfect for fun blasting at the range). The trigger is good but could be better, but I'm sure the previous owner shot it very little so I'll wait and see if it lightens up a bit with use over the next few months before I get a trigger job.
These Smith revolvers just have something about them. I got the 3" 65LS first and love it, but now I have to get the blued M13 in 3". Then there are the 4" versions of both. Then I got a 6" 586 and now I need the 586 and/or 686 in 4" the 686 in 6" and I may even go w/ a 2 1/2". Now with the 19, well I think I'll just have to keep a look out for a 3" (very rare) or 2 1/2" as well as a 6" to go along with this one. They can quickly become an addiction, but a fun one:evil:
