I went up to my cousin's farm in Vermont for a week, for some unrestricted shooting time. I brought my two newest pistols, which I had not fired before.

We mainly used WWB and some federal JHP in .40 in the P239 and the same in .45acp in the 1911.

Out of the box, the 239 was extremely reliable, not producing even 1 failure to do anything". I'm having trouble getting used to the night sights, but I'll get there eventually. Groups were just "ok" off hand (4-5"), but pretty good off a rest (2-3"). I have some work to do, but the pistol is working as advertised, without question.

As for the 1911 GI, I'll tell you now, I didn't expect much from the Springfield. At the sub $400 range, with a bare bones barrel, puny sights, and most likely less attention paid at the mfr's bench before being put out to market, as opposed to, say, a TRP or Operator model.

I had brought along 10 stock Springer magazines (cheap looking metalforms) and two of the Chip McCormick Shooting Star 8rd mags. Right out of the gate the Shooting Stars appeared to be making the top round contact the slide stop, keeping the slide open after each shot. Bah. I figured this was just the beginning to the issues I'd encounter with this pistol.

Surprisingly, once the McCormicks were removed from the mix, the issues ceased, with one single failure to feed, which was caused by a filthy feed ramp, combined with a gritty cartridge. Otherwise, this pistol didn't miss a beat, both in operation, or in accuracy. 2"- 4" groups every time, with WWB. Woohoo! Best $400 I've ever spent.
