One of the great users here at THR has a very nice Sav 474 in 30-30 and is offering it for sale. I am not up on such things and was wondering what the purchase value of such a thing would be. Most of you probably know the gun I mean, but I'll just describe it a bit.

From the excellent pictures he sent ('guys a good photog, by the way), I'd say the thing was 90-95%. Really nice. I was impressed.

It has a fixed scope, 4x, called a "Silver Antler" mounted and in as nice a condition as the gun. Looks to be a Simmons or some other such type.

Now, I'll not spoil the fun by mentioning any prices, but just ask it this way:

"If this gun was presented to your hand, what would you be willing to pay for it?"
BTW, if you're reading this, "T," forgive me, but I really am not up on this stuff like I used to be.

This is a bolt action 30-30, right?

I am personally a fan of the 30-30, and a bolt gun gives some nice "perks" to the home reloader, such as spirepoint bullets and a stronger action, along with extreme flexibility in scoping the rifle. Although you can load these in a tube mag (one in chamber and one in mag), you can load more of them in the savage.

It's still not going to be worth more than a new Marlin 336 to me or a new Win94... I'd pay about 200 bucks for a gently used one, I'm not sure if I would offer anything more for a used scope that I don't know is true or not. If I got to shoot it, liked the power and reticle, and found it to be zeroed well, I would offer $250 for the package.

Ive also looked at some nice 30-30 bolt Savages over at GunBroker.com. Someday I reckon I'll have one of those, too. :) For all the reasons you stated. Guns I know, and the merits of a 30-30 in a strong bolt gun dont elude me.

It's individual gun modesl that I dont know about and I have no real pricing guides to go by.

SO that said, will you try it again? This gun is a Savage pump rifle in 30-30, and like I said, in nice shape.

If you can picture a Mossberg 500 shotgun, you have essentially got the gun figured out. Since I have a Mossie 500 already, this seems a natural choice.

I believe we're on the same page. Thanks for your time and and opinion.
