I opened up this mornings paper and some guy here in town is selling a mexican mauser 7mm, mdl 1923 in real good condition, with "extras", for $350. I didnt know that they made mausers in mexico, are they any good? Is this a good deal?

They didn't (make them in Mexico). They were made in Germany for the Mexicans. These are (IIRC) the "older" small ring design. Fine for low pressure cartridges, but not as strong as later (1898, large ring) ones. But I might be wrong about that. Still 7x57 is a nice cartridge.

$350 is pretty high unless its in really, really good condition, or the "extras" are worth a bunch. Although I haven't seen many for sale lately, maybe they've gone up in value. Seems like the last one I saw for sale at a gun show was $200-250, in pretty good shape.

It probably wasnt made in mexico. almost every country in south and central america has imported mausers at one time. Im trying to find a chilean 1895 mauser in 7mm right now myself. call the dude and find out what it is , it may be something really cool.

My Mauser book shows Mexican Mausers from 1893 to 1936, small ring pre '98s, large ring '98s, and small ring '98s. Mostly made in Europe, but some made in Mexico. It could be a great rifle, you should get more info.
