Handled one of those Scandium .44 Mags today...

IN a local shop they had one of those S&W Scandium .44 Mags with the titanium cylinder.
I picked it up and was SHOCKED by how light it was; It weighed less than a 5-shot, 2.5" Taurus .41 Mag snubby.
I WANT ONE. Hoo...the wood grips are comfy and pretty, but probably not real practical. Dealer says it also comes with a set of rubber grips, but unless they're Pachmayr Decellerators, I'm not interested.
It's just awesome to handle, though. It weighs less than my CZ-97.
I wish Smith would make more of these. .41 Mag, .357 Mag, and maybe .45 Colt too...

Would have been a nice .45 ACP/AR, too. Moon clip loading and about the same weight as a Commander.

And I sure hope that it includes the report of the attending physician. Good shooting;)

Just wait till you fire that sucker... talk about instant carpal tunnel syndrome! Never again! Full-weight .44's for me...
I've been shooting 240gr swc's @ 900 fps with mine. I tried a few specials and they weren't bad at all. I want to use something similar to the Kieth special at around 1100 fps. The wood grips have too many edges to be comfortable with any load. I took care of that last evening with some sandpaper /steel wool. The Hogue grips work well. Can't really get used to the dayglo sights. You can hit what you aim at but it sure isn't precision shooting.
I haven't tried any 'real' 44 mag loads and don't really intend to. I got it to carry on rockhunting trips out in the Nevada desert. It will be much lighter that my 45colt MG at the end of the day.

I handled one of these a week ago and I was shocked at how light it was. I cannot imagine the felt recoil with such a light weight 44 Magnum. It might be a good back packing revolver, but it is not a Saturday afternoon target shooting pistol!

Gott im Himmel!!
An Sc-Ti 44 MAG!!! I have read that the .357 is punishing, but this one has to be a wrist breaker!!!! :what:
Smith and Wesson MUST think there are a whole bunch of masochists out here in the shooting world!!

Why not make a 18 Shot N Frame .22 Magnum revolver out of this light stuff?

self defense gun?? not if i'm afraid to pull the trigger.
imagine this: five rounds rapid fire.
if you back off to .44spec, why not just get a .44spec? examined one yesterday. a little blue steel Taurus, snub bbl, bobbed hammer, light weight, and best da trigger i have felt in a while.
price was way less than a scandium. less than 3 NIB.
.44 mag scandium snubby - and i thought that .475 Linebaugh was a badass. two rounds satisfied my curiosity.
no thanks is my response to either.

I already know what it's like. I had a .41 magnum Taurus Titanium snubby that I shot 210 grain loads though (loaded same as factory .44 magnum) and it's definately a handful in rapid fire. You need strong wrists if you want to use one as a carry gun with full magnum rounds. Does the Scandium .44 mag have a 4" barrel? If not, I wouldn't see the point of using full magnums anyways along with the noise.....:uhoh:

If they HAD to do a Scandium N-frame, it should have been an 8-shot 357, or a 45ACP sixgun with moons.
44Mag?
Insane. Completely buggy in the head.

The .357 mag is about as hot as I would be willing to handle with one of those Scanadium snubbies. I say "no way" to the .44 mag. I would think it would screw up my trigger pull for YEARS if I ever touched on of them off!
poof...

You know Charter Arms makes a real nice 44 special called the Bulldog. I was really impressed with them when I saw them at the show not long ago.
