BAD WEEK AT WORK!!! Let's have some fun shall we.

May 2, 2003, 11:34 AM
So some older threads got me to thinking. There are people on here that have firearms just to use as tools no more no less and those tools must fit a tactical need in the best way possible.

This thread is not for you, sorry.

What guns do you guys just like to shoot. Not because they have the best caliber or the most capacity or because they do something that is tactically superior then the next. I am not talking about training or even target shooting.

Which guns just put a smile on your face when you shoot them, whether you group well or not.

For me it is my....
Ruger Vaquero .357
Walther PP .32
and HK P7
in pistols.

For rifles it would have to be my....
Marlin 882SS bolt action .22 magnum.

I know that technically the P7 could be considered a great defensive handgun and I do see it as such but I just get a grin out of it's coolness and James Bond Factor if you will.

So what floats your boat or blows your skirt up so to speak?

Old Springfield 83 bolt-action .22LR

May 2, 2003, 11:45 AM
pistol: HK Mark23 - always has me grinnin'

Rifle: HK270 - my .22 plinker, and a whole lot of fun to run the 20 rd mag through

Gotta be my Granddad's guns-
The single shot .22 that shoots so nice
The .44 Blackhawk that might kill an elk this year

May 2, 2003, 11:52 AM
My happy happy guns are mausers. Kick pretty good with surplus ammo, nice long flame out the muzzle, and usually somebody will walk up and want to know what I'm shooting. Almost every trip I'll let someone try one, and they walk away muttering "I gotta get one of those things". And, when I hit a metal plate with one, it's not a tink, it's a thunk. They always bring me a smile.

Benelli M1 Super 90, Beretta 92G and P7M8.

baby desert eagle 9mm. so comfortable. so pretty.

May 2, 2003, 12:19 PM
the 3 that REALLY put a smile on my face when I shoot them are all .22's...

#1 my first rifle - a Bolt-Cocker .22 single shot Springfield rifle

#2 my first pistol, a Ruger Mk1 semi-auto

#3 the first handgun I ever shot... Dad's old Hi-Standard Double-Nine (now mine, a gift from father a while ago) - I shot this one last night... WHAT a stress reliever... It always makes me smile...

May 2, 2003, 12:26 PM
Gotta go with Playthe Aces on this one...

Definitely my Mauser's...

Next would be the Ruger MKII.. I love just plinkin with that...

May 2, 2003, 12:28 PM

#1) Model 629-1: nothing like a 3" .44 Magnum to put a big, stupid grin on your face.

#2) Model 625-4: a five-inch N-frame with a trigger smoothed to near perfection by about eleventy zillion dry snaps. Shooting it is a zen-like experience.

#3) 94AE Trapper: stubby little .45 Colt levergun that's just fun to shoot. Even if you're not shooting at anything other than dirt clods on the berm, the *ka-chack-BOOM!* is just a satisfying auditory and tactile experience.

You know, I started to make a list, then realized this is a trick question:

The correct answer: ALL OF THEM!

My happy happy gun is a S&W Mod 13. I just love the feel of the grips and the trigger is just sooooooooo sweeet. It makes a nice boom and puts holes where I want them.

My 940 gives me the grins also.

May 2, 2003, 12:50 PM
My SKS, while nothing special, is incredibly fun to shoot, paper or plinking.

I also have a major crush on my new MKII, especially since it has stopped FTE'ing 3 times per mag.

all of my other guns are pretty utilitarian - I like them, but they lack the fun factor of the two I listed above

When I go out wandering my Dad's woods or back 40, what I usually take is an air rifle. BSA Superport or RWS 34. I like not having to worry about hearing protection.

Loudenboomers? Whatever handgun strikes my fancy that day.

May 2, 2003, 12:51 PM
My SA 1911. Oh man, that is a sweetheart!:D

Pretty sad, but I like shooting my old G17 with dead nightsights and Yugo Mauser.

May 2, 2003, 12:51 PM
My scoped Rem 597 .22lr on sandbags. Its the only gun I have that I can actually use to produce groups instead of patterns.

Machine guns. Nothing makes me happier than a nice warm Saturday afternoon, an Uzi, a case or three of 9mm hardball, and a bunch of bowling pins to mow down.

Does an air pistol count? The trigger on my Beeman P3 is sweeter than any of my bang-bang guns and usually brings a smile to my face.

Browning Gold

May 2, 2003, 02:06 PM
:D For me, when I'm going for Grin Factor I pick up either the Ruger SBH in .454 or my Walther p-22. For fun rifle shooting either a .50 black powder rifle or any of my ar-15's. Hows' that for extremes?

May 2, 2003, 02:12 PM
My M1 Garand. No matter if I hit anything, no matter if it has a malfunction, no matter what I know I will get a big ole' goofy grin everytime I here that glorious "PING".

That "PING" is a sound that ranks up there with the sound of a nicely tuned 350 V8 or the sound of a P51 Mustang at full throttle.

My gun that's the most fun to shoot is a High Standard Victor: it's accurate, not too heavy, and doesn't recoil much.

Chinese lookalike Mauser 98k in 22 LR. Fun & accurate.

May 2, 2003, 03:21 PM
Mossberg 12 guage. Tears stuff up, feels good on the shoulder, but the best part is that it is my girlfriends fav gun as well! :D

May 2, 2003, 03:36 PM
Winchest 94 in .22, ruger single six. i'm not wild about loading mags constantly, so those guns are just pure fun to shoot

May 2, 2003, 04:29 PM
My fun gun is definitely my Walther P88, and the fact that it is so accurate doesn't hurt. I only have one rifle right now and that is my Bushy Dissipator. It is a very fun gun as well.

May 2, 2003, 08:08 PM
My Beretta and my SKS. Man I love shootin' those things! Haven't had a chance to try out my Enfield yet.

Fatboyclone: You have a Mk23?!?! I bow down to you sir.

May 2, 2003, 08:34 PM

Last night I was given the opertunity of a lifetime. I had some Spec-War friends leave today, and they had their going away party last night. They had just about anything you could imagine for personal guns. I got to shoot an MP5, a .50 cal sniper rifle, an auto that resembled an uzi, but I didn't catch the name of it, and then a bunch of "normal" guns. It was the best night I have had in a long time. We broke out an old Point Blank bullet proof vest that was laying around, and decided to see what it would stop. It took 36 rounds of .45 ACP on one side from the furthest distance of 7 yarsds, and over 60 9MM rounds on the other side, and only had one penetration. The penetration was caused by hitting the vest too low, and not actually getting the round into the Kevlar. Like I said, it was the best night I have had in a while:cool:

May 2, 2003, 08:56 PM
I liked bripping away with an MP5-PDW, but it was a lot more satisfying to:

(A) Vapourise an X-ring with a 1911
(B) Actually group my shots shooting for the first time in a decade with a Beretta.
(C) Hearing Lendringser pronounce "Not bad." High praise :)
(D) Watch Tam make plasma-pulses downrage with illuminated rounds. Damn, looked like a beam-weapon firing!

It's not the gun, it's who you're shooting with.

May 2, 2003, 08:58 PM
As far as pistols go, I really enjoy shooting my Glock 17. Sweet, accurate, reliable, and low recoil.

Rifles, I am in love with my AR-15, a Bushy shorty A2 model. Great gun. Fun gun.

May 2, 2003, 09:03 PM
I get a kick (pardon the pun) out of my Garand and my Colt Gold Cup, but for pure fun, nothing beats the Lyman Great Plains Rifle or the Navy Arms 1860 Army revolver. They speak with authority, and the "ooh, cool!" factor at the range is way up there.

Don't get me started on those big, beautiful '51's, man. I could listen to that sound all day!:D

May 2, 2003, 09:36 PM
M1 Carbine
MechTech carbine
Trailside 4" bbl .22
CD Gov't Model .45

I have others for various purposes and enjoy shooting those also but for just plain fun these are my "always" guns.

Hello all,

Tired of 'lurking'. My favorite guns to just shoot are my .45's. A Kimber Custom II, LlamaMax-I and a Mini-Max. Those and my SKS's. I love the feel of .45 recoil and the utter 'functionality' (is that a word) of these weapons.

May 2, 2003, 10:07 PM
M1 Garand
M1918A3 SLR
Any full auto.
106mm Recoiless Rifle - now that's a blast!

Springfield 1911-A1 Full-size

Marlin 795SS .22LR Rifle

Romanian SAR-1 AK-47

:D :D :D

May 2, 2003, 10:32 PM
Every time I open my gun safe and hear Samuel L. Jackson's voice in my head say "AK-47!!" (you know the rest). That one with its PSO 8x42 scope and a 30 rounder mag gives me the best satisfaction.

My Steyr M40 gives me similar feelings and, like Bog, I'm seeing the groups tighten up and found my fav. pistola, using my own ammo.

My other firearms don't have anything to worry about though.

I love em all.

May 2, 2003, 10:33 PM
I'd have to say my .22lr bolt action rifle. It was my Dad's first gun about 50 years ago. (Also my first gun.) I've had friends tell me that rifle makes them feel like a sniper. I guess the 4x scope and bi-pod help in that manner. ;)

For a handgun I'd say my P22 over my 9mm. Probably because it still has the "newest gun" factor. :D

- S&W Model 18
- S&W Model 15

I hope to try out my new (to me) Model 14-3 next week. I can hardly wait!

Although I like magnums shot tight for accuracy, I have more fun with light loads from big guns, sometimes.

My Springield '03 .35 Whelen loaded with my handload 180 g. .357 pistol bullet handloads at about 3/4 velocity of the standard 225gr. or 250gr. loading, is just PHUN. Shooting the regular load is BANG!!! Shooting these loads is Pow! Brings a big silly grin.

Light 130 gr. FMJ handloads through my 6" Colt Officer's Model Special .38 Special heavy barrel are super fun to shoot. The pistol is huge for the caliber, and is capable of loads equal to light Magnums, but this light load is just a blast to pop-pop-pop. The grin spreads.

An accurate group of slugs through any shotgun never ceases to make me grin.

Any group through a .50 BMG rifle makes me smile.

High-powered rifles at sealed cans of expired peas are super-phun. :D

Full-caliber pistols at man-sized targets on a dusty hillside at over 300 yards is always fun: Bang! ...dust kicks up... Plop!
