bolt wear on Al FAL receiver

I've got a Meeper Al FAL and the bolt is wearing on the floor of the receiver right where the hammer comes up though the receiver and where the bolt tilts. It will eventually wear out the receiver and the bolt will jam up in the track it's worn.

Any good advice other than give up or just run it until I need a new receiver?

First, make sure the bolt is being picked up all the way by the carrier and is not being forced down against the receiver. If that is OK, break the corners on the bolt and use a good lubricant grease. Should solve the problem.

FWIW, that kind of wear usually proceeds to a point and stops as parts wear in.

Jim,

This is pretty bad and if I don't do something it'll eat it's way through and lock up. It's already half way though the floor of the receiver. I'll take a dremel to the rear right angle lower face of the bolt for a radius and then polish it.

Have you contacted the people who sell that receiver to see what they recommend? I am thinking that there may be some problem with dimensions when fitting two parts that came from separate places, which is why I asked about the carrier pickup. The bolt normally slides on the receiver, but it shouldn't dig in that much, especially as the hammer tends to hold it upward. Of course, steel is harder than aluminum and the latter will wear first, but that seems to be too much unless you have run several thousand rounds through the gun.

Does the bolt slide easily when the bolt carrier is operated by hand? Remove the cover and the spring strut (slide rod), plus the hammer and mainspring and see if the bolt and carrier move easily; if not, the problem is deeper than just smoothing the bolt.

There are quite a few people that would like to do that, up close and personally.

What caliber is the rifle, .45 acp? I thought these conversions were strait blow-back, with a modified one piece bolt/boltcarrier.

Were I You i would head on over to falfiles.com sign up and ask there. Its my understanding that Aluminum Recievers will NOT stand up to .308 and are in fact a bomb with an unknown fuse length ( as they will fail and dramaticly ) . In any event quit shooting it untill you know more or get it checked by a smith .

I should have said that it's a 5.56 build on the Al receivers.

The FALFiles guys haven't come up with any suggestions yet either.
