Celebrity Perks to Warm Your Heart

From an email this morning (no, I don't know where Star 100.7 is):Star 100.7 (radio station) was doing one of
their "is anyone listening who" bits this morning.
The first one was, "Ever have a celebrity pull the 'Do you know who I
am' routine?"
A lady called in and said that when she was visiting her cattle
rancher Uncle in Billings, MT a few years ago, they went to dinner at
a restaurant that does not take reservations. The wait was about 45
minutes. Lots of other rancher types and their spouses were already
waiting.
In comes Ted Turner and Jane Fonda. They want a table. The hostess
says they'll have to wait about 45 minutes. Jane Fonda asks the
hostess if she knows who she is. "Yes, but you'll still have to wait
45 minutes." Then Jane says, "Is the manager in?"
The manager comes out, "May I help you?"
"Do you know who I am?" ask both Jane and Ted.
"Yes, but these folks have all been waiting already and I can't put
you in ahead of them."
Then Ted asks to speak to the owner. The owner comes out. Jane again
asks, "Do you know who I am?"
The owner says, "Yes, I do. Do you know who I am? I am the owner of
this restaurant and a Vietnam Veteran. Not only will you not get a
table ahead of all of my friends and neighbors here, but you also will
not be eating in my restaurant tonight or any other night. Good bye."
Only in America, what a great country

Why do I have trouble believing that the whole incident is anything but a fabrication?

Hmm. Some hotshot major league baseball player who lives in Blackhawk, CA tried the same with my daughter when she was reception at a local gym. I don't pay attention to sports and neither does my daughter so she did not recognize him. He became irate when she insisted on seeing his ID.
Pttthhhhht!

Well, on the plus side, Fernando Vina of the St. Louis Cardinals lives near me - He's a very nice guy.

It's a nice thought, but it's an urban legend (http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/outrage/fonda.asp) . Don't worry, I still have an extreme dislike for Mrs. Fonda, and other traitors.

While stationed at Fort Hood, TX, I was an NCO in the Military Police. One of our MP's stopped a car for a violation and the lady became very indignant and asked the MP if he knew who she was. He stated no he didn't and she let him know that she was Mrs. Colonel So and So and her husband was commander of one of the infantry brigades there. He looked at her and asked he if she knew who his father was, when she replied she didn't he told her he was a truck driver from New Jersey, here is your ticket. Have a good day.
Needless to say Mrs. Colonel got the last laugh when Mr. Colonel called the Provost Marshall. That MP got reamed pretty bad.

Maybe the Turner/Fonda thing is a story....and maybe not. Knowing the way most folks around here feel about him (and her too), I wouldn't doubt the story completely.

Well there was this guy name of Ken Behring, former owner of the Seattle Seahawks NFL team, billionaire real estate developer, owner of the Blackhawk Auto Museum, who wanted to score CCW in Contra Costa County (pop: 950,000) and listed as his "good cause for issuance":
"high profile...need protection" (yes, that's the WHOLE thing)
...and became one of the 179 permitholders - after joining the sheriff's personal political support club.
In California, I could go ON and ON like that for hours, regarding CCW and celebs .
My brother works for a major airline in Albuquerque. Lots of celebs go thru there on their way to & from Santa Fe. He told me Val Kilmer was outraged when he found out someone would be sitting next to him. He demanded that that passenger be relocated. He wasn't aware that my brother can't be bullied.
Bro also said Bob Costas is a snotty little runt.

Don't know if true or not, but would be proper treatment for Turncoat Teddy and Hanoi Jane around any place I ran...

I was in Bozeman, MT around the time "A River Runs Through It" must've been shooting, in retrospect. Robert Redford came into the restaurant where I was (I didn't see him except as he was walking out - good view of his back), about 2-3 minutes after they closed, asking for a table. The restaurant informed him they were closed and couldn't do it and he graciously left, all as related by a waitress at the receptionist's desk.
As much as I sometimes disagree with his politics, I admire someone who doesn't try to throw his weight around.
I can just imagine Hanoi Jane and Red Ted asking for special treatment. I'm surprised Ted doesn't just buy a restaurant to go along with his cattle ranches in MT. He can donate it all to the UN and the "peace" movement someday.
