I'm posting this in the revolver forum cause the finish is on a Detective Special but guess it could be on anything. My father liked Colt firearms and is no longer here. One of his favorites was the Det, Special and Cobras. I have one that was refinished with something he told me was teflon with stainless steel particles suspended in it. Its a nice grayish color and was wondering if anyone heard of such a thing?

Sounds like NP3. which is nickel impregnated with teflon. Robar does this finish.

My agent was finished in this after Sadowski tuned it . NP3 is IT , as far as I'm concerned on alloys. Hard chrome is slightly superior on steel IMHO. Your dad and me have the same tastes, you ought to learn son.

Another interesting thing is that the trigger is glassy smooth almost as if the finish gave it a trigger job.
