I have a blade type bayonet on a Tula arsenal pre-ban Russian.

It is VERY hard to loosen the screw. Am I doing something wrong?

PLEASE help!

If it is attached with a screw instead of being pinned, the screw holding the bayonet may have been staked. That is when they use a punch and hammer to hit the end of the screw after it has been tightened. The flares the end and prevents the screw from working itself out during normal use.

If this is the case, you may need to slightly grind the end of the screw to remove this deformation. It is possible to use a large enough screwdriver and force the screw out, but that will trash the screw and possibly the threads on the bayonet lug.

I'm scared to screw something up. I will just take it to a gunsmith. Thanks for the comments.

retract the bayonet and let it loosly point downwards in a safe direction(straight down, muzzle of barrel pointed horizontal).now try removing the screw.these things are under spring tension so please be careful.try it,mine is difficult to remove also and this is how mine is done.p.s. its even more fun getting the screw back in there to put it back on.
