I just picked up an excellent condition Finnish M39. The bore is excellent and the bluing is easily 98%+. The wood is war-time issue and it's dark in some places, mostly around the grip, and on the the right side of the stock...which might indicate it's original owner was a lefty...where one would get a cheek weld. There are a few dings here and there. The barrel is an SA stamped 1943 Sako and all numbers match. The stock is also stamped with a Sako cartouch as is the bolt.

And, it's a non-import.

Paid $199. Was that good or bad?

Finn Mosins aren't cheap (Heck no Finn guns are cheap). I say you did good. If you wanted to sell it, you'll surely get your money back. If you hold on to it for five years or so, I think you can double it.

Oh and if you shoot surplus ammo, make sure you flush the bore with soap and water to clean out the primer salts. Perhaps you know this already, but just in case. I'd hate to see a nice Finn get a rusty bore.

You did very well. Especially if the metal is that good of shape. I got two of them awhile back. Very happy , who would have thought you could turn a lowly Mosin into a Queen but the Finn's sure did! +1 on cleaning well after shooting the cheap milsurp ammo. It's not really that big a deal but does need to be done. Here's a pic of mine, I got a great deal from a local dealer, barely over $200 OTD for both.:D

I took out an armload of milsurps last week. One was the M39. After I realized I wasn't shooting wimpy AR/AKs anymore and started holding on to it like a sweaty fat girl at one AM in a hotel bar (she was all that was left:) ) I really had a good time. I fired about fifty rounds of mixed milsurp. Gun functioned beautifully and at 100 yds I was getting 5" five round shot groups. They are great guns. Mine is a 1941 VKT.
