I've put off looking into a NIB Ruger Mk III or a NIB 22/45 Mk III because of problems I read with the loaded chamber indicator. Has Rugers solved these problems?

It looks like the problem has been solved on my MkIII 22/45. I think the grip is an improvemnet over my 22/45 but the magazine safety makes a PITA takedown/reassembly procedure an even larger PITA since you now have to swap an empty mag in and out or fish around to active it so you can lower the hammer at the appropiate times.

The loaded chamber indicator I hardly notice, so its neutral for me. YMMV.

Thanks for the response. I didn't think you could make disassembly/assembly more complicated than a Mk II. I guess I was wrong.:(

Assembly isn't that hard as long as you follow the instructions to the letter.

I haven't had any trouble with mine. I also find the loaded chamber indicator to be a non issue.

The Mark III's loaded chamber indicator was redesigned (late 2004) by Ruger and now is made in two pieces. The old one piece LCI could fire the pistol if it was struck with a hard object. The new one is spring loaded and does not have direct leverage on the rim of the cartridge.

And folks, Bullseye is the one responsible for pointing out the problem to Ruger and making them look at a redesign. His testing and diligence in convincing Ruger they had a problem has probably prevented inadvertant discharges of the Mark III's.
