That .600 Nitro revolver has been out for awhile. There have been posts indicating (with pictures) of .50 BMG SA revolver also. Not entirely sure about the validity of that one thought.
But, those are handguns built around rifle/MG calibers. Alotta folks build rifle cartridge handguns which beat out the .500 SW. IMO, I think the .500 SW is currently the top for a handgun cartridge (non-wildcat).

I've read about 45/70s and such and don't really consider them reasonable. Heck the smith is not much lighter than my AR rifle. It seems in terms of size. weight and recoil tradeoffs that i can't imagine anything bigger than the 500, or lighter than the new scandium .44 mag, being of much use except for bragging rights. I'll take one of each please.

I'ver held the .44 but have not had the oppurtunity to shoot it. It belongs to a friend. I don't think I would like to spend an afternoon shooting it. It is paper light. Really! I sure would like to get my hands on the 500.

I've shot the .500 and the Scandium .44, and the latter is MUCH worse than the .500! After only 3 rounds, my wrist was sending me that old "Helloooo, carpal tunnel syndrome" message... Never again! I'll stick to full-weight .44's from now on. Seriously, I'd rather fire 50 rounds through a Scandium .357 than a full cylinder through the Scandium .44!
:what: :uhoh:

I thought that the 500 Linebaugh Maximum is longer than the 500S&WMag.

I went to the German article link--Only read a few words of that language, but - - -Imagine a 6.5 kg (14.3 pound) revolver! And that is empty.
For the faint of heart, they also offer it in .458 WinMag . . . .:p

I read the German article and did some converting:
The ballistics for factory .600 Nitro Express out of the Pfeifer-Zeliska are 900 grains at 1515 fps, for 4586 foot-pounds of energy..
