Who makes nice forged 1911 frames these days. I'm wanting to get one to go with a colt slide I have and I would really like to get a forged one and not a cast and machined one.

If all you have is a clot, why must you have a forged frame?
Baer is the only source I know of offhand and I doubt they will be in a hurry to sell you one, profit is higher on a whole gun.

I just trust parts that are forged more thatn the cast and then machined ones. Not to say that they are garbage, I just feel that the forged ones are better.

Caspian is a company I have always heard good of, just wasn't sure how they were made.

I know years ago Essex was well thought of, possibly becase they were about the only show in town in after market frames. Are they even still around? are they any good?

Current Caspians are cast[although they are well done.....I have a super nice 10mm built on one]. If you want a forged and machined frame, look at Baer and Wilson. I just recieved a new Wilson frame, and it is certainly nice quality.

I believe STI also sells forged frames, but they may have a ramped barrel cut, not sure, and I have no experience with the quality.

Sorry, I couldn't resist the "clot" bit.

Chip McCormick used to sell receivers but they are no longer listed on his website or Brownell's.

Exxex frames are cast. Recent production is reported ok but they are usually considered a step behind Caspian.

According to their www, the STI forged frame is not precut for an integral ramp barrel.

I have a couple of guns on Caspian parts that do very well. I have one on a Baer frame that is just as good but I cannot say it is better because it is forged.

What counts on a frame is that all the cuts and holes are right or at least usable and that you fit up the other parts properly, not where the raw metal came from.

Not a problem, my fingers just tripped. :)

I would certainly rather have a well done cast frame than a badly done machined. I am just hoping to find a well done machined frame. If I can't for a "resonable" price I'll end up getting a cast one.
