As we await the next terrorist attack...

There seems little doubt that the terrorists will strike us again. They clearly want to hurt us, and our unwillingness to use all of our power to destroy them has surely given them additional courage and disdain for us. The greatest power in the history of the world is being stymied by a handful of insurgents in Iraq and we are quicker to want to punish soldiers who were overzealous or failed to play by the rules than we are to punish enemy combatants captured on the field of battle.

So when the terrorists hit us again, what do we do as individuals? Do we, the armed populace, the real militia referred to in our Constitution, come to the aid of America and our loved ones and fellow citizens? Do we sit passively and hope the "authorities" will keep us safe? When they try to come through my front door, that's an easy situation to know what to do. But every day I go about my normal business, busy with the details of my job, worried about a failing air conditioner or the high price of gas, feeling helpless to do anything to stop the scum from striking at all of us through a terrorist act.

Here in Illinois I feel especially frustrated, knowing that even to carry a weapon "just in case" I am the one to spot the terrorist before he sets off the bomb, or starts shooting into the crowd, I am more likely to be arrested and incarcerated than I am to really help protect this county that I love so dearly.

Personally, I wouldn't live in a state that doesn't allow me to defend my loved ones. I never realized the importance of carrying until I actually started doing it (and reading these forums!)

When they hit us again, if they hit your community you help clean up the mess and comfort the survivors. I don't see how sidearms enter into this equation. Vote for people that will enthusiastically send our military to avenge you and support them politically and equip them properly to carry out that mission.

If al Quaeda sinks to shooting up shopping malls instead of huge bombs, gun laws will become meaningless and everybody will be packing.

I understand and agree, Vito. When someone tells me sidearms can not make a difference my response is. "If four pilots, and four co-pilots had been armed on 9/11, Do you think a dozen suicidal individuals could have taken over four planes, by arming themselves with box cutters?"

I trust many of us will never forget flight 93, and the few heroic individuals that gave their lives to put their plane into the ground in Pennsylvania. They probably saved many lives. If ANY ONE of them had a gun they might be alive today.

The authorities, especially liberal ones, do a less than stellar job of protecting we, the people. Think Los Angeles Rodney King Riots, and New Orleans Hurricane Katrina. Remember that Ben Franklin said, "The Lord helps those who help themselves", and make your family's preparations accordingly.

Also, support the NRA, pray for our troops, vote carefully, and try to keep fit.

God bless.

considering one of the stated senarios is, a few machine gun armed terrorists in a shopping center, being armed isn't a bad thing.

I'll keep my weapon close.
