My buddy claims that there are three ways to carry a CZ75B. In no particular order:

1. Hammer cocked and safety engaged

2. Hammer down and safety disengaged

3. Hammer at half cock and safety engaged

I've heard of the 1 and 2 but not 3. Any damage to carrying in 3?

Yes, the safety won't engage at half cock on a 75B. However it is possible to carry with the safety OFF and hammer at half cock. In fact I find this to be a convenient way to do things as it reduces the weight of the trigger through a considerable portion of pull. The 75B has a double action trigger pull that is a little long for some people, myself included. The new P-01 style trigger does away with a lot of that.

On the DA/SA models with a decocker, the decocker lowers the hammer to half-cock so it must be OK to carry at half-cock.

I've got an SP-01 that has such a long trigger reach I can hardly reach the trigger with the hammer down in DA mode (man, those Czech's must have big hands!). The reach is fine with the hammer cocked in SA mode as the trigger moves back quite a bit. I'm thinking about sending it to CZUSA and having it converted to SA only as I can't see me ever wanting to shoot it in DA mode.

I carry mine in "cocked & locked" mode only although I have heard of others using the half cocked feature but as stated before, the safety will not engage in this mode.
Cocked & locked isn't for everybody though but that is how I carry my 1911 also so I do it to keep parity between the two.

Do what is comfortable and what you are able to practice with. For somebody that doesn't want to carry condition 1 for whatever reasons I would suggest the half cock just to decrease the trigger pull.
