I have an old Security-Six that has seen massive duty in a holster and the finish is down to bare steel in many spots but is functionally 100%. I like the gun and would like to carry it in some extreem conditions. I am having a heck of a time keeping the bare parts from rusting, I have to scrub it witha brush at least once a week and I keep a good layer of oil on it.

I have been thinking of having it chromed. Whaddya think? Pics of guns that have had this treatment?

I'm not much on shiny chrome guns, too hard to shoot in the sun.

I bought this East German Makarov at the last gun shot. The dealer had it finished for his own use but never fired it. It's the best job I've ever seem. I shoot everything I've got, but I'll probably not shoot this one.:)

Sorry, I'm not 'picture capable'. I do, however, have a gun with hard chrome finish. I bought a used Colt Officers Model at a gun show. It is the all steel model. It is a wonderful shooter and a fine carry piece but had some finish problems. I also had a little bit of exterrior smith work done. I had a LIGHT dehorn job and an undercut at the back of the trigger guard. SO-it needed a new 'dress'.

I had it LIGHTLY sand blasted and then hard chromed. Therefore it is NOT a really shiny finish-no flash to obscure a good sight picture (which are left blued). I love the finish. It is slick as snot making it easy to clean and aids slipperiness of the action. It is almost wear proof and rust proof.

All in all, I like the way it turned out very much indeed. YMMV

Here's my old Commander that was hard chromed after rusting in Colt blue. What your looking at is 10 years of daily carry. The black steaks are actually polished chrome from holster wear and look like a mirror. They just look black in the pic. I sweat like a pig and I'm usually soaking wet for most of the day in the summer. I got very little rust once I went with the chrome. It will still rust if you dont re oil after cleaning with something like Gun Scrubber. It will stop 99% of rust though and is great for hard use.

I have 14 other Makarovs so there's not a lot of temptation to shoot it.:)
The picture doesn't do it justice.

Hard chrome over stainless. Same with the mag. It is starting to shine up a little in the wear spots, but the finish is not wearing at all. I carry this gun 90% of the time.

I haven't seen a lot of hard chromed revolvers, but I bet it would look great. I wonder what it would look like over a bead blasted surface. Or if it can even be done. Your question births another question.

OK, I am most certainly going to get it done, wow, what good looking side-arms. I like the results of a good matte finish. Now to just find a place to do mine...

It seems the Tripp Research guys don't like revolvers.

This is my competition XD40. I have the hard chrom done by Tripp. This is the matte chome instead of the polished gloss look.
