A local dealer's having a 20% off sale, which would include a Browning Micro Hunter in .308. I'm a traditional action sorta guy, and a action with three locking lugs(made in Japan) isn't traditional, but it does have nice wood:)

The caliber & weight are nice for mountain hunting. Also nice is the stock is a little shorter than most, which fits me better. Opinions on them?

I have one and its a good little shooter----somewhat stout on the recoil---and the wood seems a bit soft-----problem is--I put a Springfield M1A on lay-a-way today----and I'm going to sell the Micro to fund the purchase of the M1A-----I guess I don't need 2 .308's.

The Brownings are good guns---its just that I hear the battle rifle calling me louder----plus with 5 round mags---the M1A is legal for deer in this state.

2 .308s? Sheesh... I think everyone needs about 4 and I don't even like the cartridge. :p

I really like the Browning rifles... I'd put them right behind Tikkas for reasonable budget rifles. Never handled the compact. I have played with two of the Ruger Compacts, a walnut 308 and a laminateed one in 243. Very nice handling little rifles... Both the triggers were pretty rough but that can be fixed. I'd really like to get one in 260 or 7mm-08 since I don't have any carry weight rifles in either of those calibers.

well, I took the plunge and bought it.:)

The wood is nice, the safety can be easily reached with one's thumb, and the barrel is full floating. Will have to post photos and a range report!
