We have heard about the antiques merchant who carries a German Luger pistol for defense.
Is there a relationship between the vehicle that you drive and the gun that you carry?

I too drive both a manual (ford f-150) and an automatic ('73 caddy hearse) but both my pistolas are DA.. well, dao on the kahr, and trad DA on the beretta.
though I vastly prefer manual shift vehicles... the SVT Focus is calling my name....

I carry a DA/SA Auto that can also be carried cocked and locked, a DA-Only revolver, and a DA-Only auto.
I drive a Mazda Protege ES and a Ford Ranger Long Bed, both with manual transmissions.

As an interesting side note to this thread...
I used to really over think this. I thought now that I CCW I should only drive automatics, that way if I am caught in the car my gun hand isn't tied up shifting.
After taking a more common sense look at it, it occured to me.
If I am caught stationary to the point the car can't move the trans won't matter because I should be exiting and using the car for cover rather than sitting there like a fish in a barrel.
If I am moving at a rate sufficient to require shifting, I should be "flooring it and driving evasively until I get away" not trying to do the John Woo thing one handed out my window.

Depends on the vehicle, depends on the gun.

I think it might be interesting to see if there's a correlation between caliber and number of cylinders. Do people who carry 9mm guns drive 4-bangers, and .45 carriers V8s?

This is an interesting thread... and I follow it almost perfectly. I grew up with 1911s and always had manual cars until I got my most recent one which happens to have an auto. This year, I switched from 1911s to a Kahr DAO. But later this year or possibly next year, I plan on swapping my auto out for a manual.
I wonder if I'll switch back to a single action when I get the 5 speed? :p
Another similar thread would be engine size vs. preferred CCW caliber.
Edit: guess Mr Clever up there beat me to my idea. :D

If only a manual transmission were as easy to find as a DA auto.

Semi auto for me, and I prefer a manual transmission, but I don't own a car, I use my wife's or roommate's which are both automatics.

DA/SA Auto with C&L capabilities, drove a 18 wheeler for 35 years and swore that when I retired I would never drive another standard transmission.

Carry with dignity, and drive way too fast.
Disclaimer:
(I'm not 21 so I only carry myself and my pocket knife with dignity, but when I do carry it will probably be a G19. Drive auto I've had bad experiences with my dad's manual, but am still gonna try and get it right.)
