Just received Aug edition of Outdoor Life. Story inside about Eric Clapton and other rock musicians doing a benefit concert for pro-hunting in England in support of English fox hunters. "Clapton's publisist told reporters that, while the Rocker doesn't hunt, he is an avid shooter who disagrees with the government's efforts to interfere with people's private pursuits." Pretty cool!
:)
Link is not up on Outdoor Life site for Aug issue yet - just have to go buy the magazine.

Thoroughly pleased to learn one of my favorite all-time musicians is an avid shooter and is helping the cause in Mother England. Layla and 461 Ocean Boulevard are constantly in my iPod's top 25! Thank you Mr. Clapton.

Cool! big fan of his music, all the way back to (and especially) "Cream"...Maybe the UK version of Ted Nugent? Nahhhh, no one could beat Ted. But good to know he's sticking to his "guns" (pun intended).

Outstanding! I knew he was into fishing but didn't know about shooting.
I'm a big Clapton fan. I'll be seeing him live for the third time in October.

I'm a big Clapton fan, especially early stuff. He just went up a notch in my book as well.

Oh, yeah, definitely, lots of talent in that bunch, and I do like it. But, Cream was big when I first started to REALLY get into music, and I do like the heavy stuff.

The original Layla (not that unplugged blasphemous tune) is one of my favorite all-time songs. I'm glad to hear he's pro-gun.

That's cool! I've always loved his music. I guess I always figured he was the usual anti-gun musician type, glad he's not!
Clapton-related story: I was about 15, driving home from a weekend of varming hunting with my dad (well, he was driving, I was in the passenger seat). We were listening to "Timepieces, best of Eric Clapton" on cassette tape and there was a few minutes of silence after side B had ended while the tape runs to the end and does it's it's auto-reverse thing. I glanced at the back seat admiring the AK-22, 10/22, and one of the custom .221 fireballs we had used which were still laying out. Suddenly a question popped into my head...
"Dad, what would happen if we got pulled over and a cop saw all the guns in the back seat?"
On perfect que, "I SHOT THE SHERIFF!" belts out of the speakers as that song starts up. :uhoh:
We couldn't stop laughing for a good 10 minutes!

You know, for quite a number of years up until now I always thought Eric Clapton was an anti. I'm glad to see I was incorrect.
Eric Clapton Supports Fox Hunting

Eric Clapton has agreed to headline a controversial seven-hour concert supporting the Countryside Alliance in its fight to lift the ban on fox hunting in the UK.
The hitmaker will join fellow rockers Bryan Ferry, Pink Floyd's Roger Waters and Nick Mason, Roger Daltrey of The Who and Genesis guitarist Mike Rutherford at the gig at Highclere Castle in Berkshire this summer.
Clapton's spokesperson confirmed last night, "Eric supports the Countryside Alliance. He doesn't hunt himself, but does enjoy rural pursuits such as fishing and shooting.
He supports the Alliance's pursuit to scrap the ban on the basis that he doesn't agree with the state's interference with people's private pursuits."
The ban on fox hunting was imposed by the British government in February, and the concert is expected to face opposition from animal rights activists.

Youve all got to be joking!! Its a disgrace what Clapton did doing that concert, I used to be such a big fan of his but I wont ever listen to another one of his songs or concerts again I hate him and his pro-hunt opinions, its unecessary and I cant believe anyone took part in that concert. What nice people you are wanting to kill animals!!

I'm sure "cafc girl" is a vegan who wears only hemp fiber clothes and rubber and cloth shoes and never had a loved one saved by medications that required animal testing to insure safety and efficacy.

There is a huge difference between killing an intelligent being for food, and harvesting a plant. Plants aren't conscious - animals are. So it's not quite as simple as "one must kill to live".
Just saying.
And Rainbowbob - Not all vegans are hippy-dippy, tiedye wearing PETA freaks. Just like all gun owners aren't mouth-breathing redneck neanderthals who scream MOLON LABE at any opportunity.

The benefit is for fox hunting in Britain. I don't think they shoot the foxes, do they? I think they just chase them with hounds and horses. So, from this we can't tell how Eric feels about shooting.

Who cares? The mentality is the same, even if the superficial image is different. I studied Evolution in school. Harsh reality, but reality, nevertheless.
If humans had evolved to be vegans, we'd have a 4-chambered stomach.
So, from this we can't tell how Eric feels about shooting.
No, but you can get some idea from this:
