Something about the sigs really appeal to me. I already have an XD and like it a lot. I was wondering what you guys think about the P229?

It's solid, accurate, and dead-reliable. It's eaten every type of crappy ammo I've put through it with nary a malfunction. It's a bit heavy and wide compared to some of the polymer guns out there, but I've worn mine concealed IWB without too much discomfort.

As a service weapon I couldn 't be happier (well, I would be happier if they'd issued ours in something heavier than 9mm, but that's neither here nor there). I strongly suggest you try one out and give it serious consideration.

I have two. One in 9mm and one with both the .40 and .357 Sig barrels. I love them! Ergonomic, 100% reliable, accurate, small enough to carry, big enough to be very shootable. What is not to like?

I'm happy with the DAO 229R that they issued me last year. I'd be happier with the DAK trigger, but this is light years better than what it replaced. The only problem I have with mine is that I have a nasty habit of letting my thumb rest high on the grip and tripping the slide lock with it. This is my fault and due to shooting lots of 1911s with a thumb safety. I'm still working on training myself to keep my blasted thumb out of the way. Other than that, it is a reliable, accurate, and durable service weapon.

Of the pistols I own, my P229 (40/357) has the smoothest action.The only other semiauto thats comes close is my Beretta Cougar.Its easy to be accurate with the P229.It is one of my favorite and finest.

I love my Sig 229. Mine has both barrels for .40 and .357. It also has night sights. That is what I keep next to my bed at night.
It is top of the line for double action semi auto pistols.
It is my understanding that the Treasury Dept, U.S. Customs, Federal Protective Service, and Air Marshalls carry them in .357 Sig.

I have installed XS 24/7 Big Dot sights and Nill grips and can't praise it enough.

I have one in .40 S&W with a 9mm conversion barrel(EFK Fire Dragon) and have no complaints.

Sigs look awesome, shoot great and are a great multipurpose handgun. Sig makes good magazines with their pistols, so you don't have to worry about expensive aftermarket mags. :) Some of the Sig's critics (are there any?) might say that it's expensive. But when it comes to a pistols like Sig and H&K, whether you are going to carry it or just shoot for fun, I'm more than happy to pay a bit more for reliability. You get what you pay for! ;)

Oh yeah... and I LOVE the ability to change out the .40 barrel for .357 SIG!

I've owned a P228 for almost 6 years now.
On my first trip to the range, I loaded the mags with several different types of ammo--two of this one, 4 of this one, 3 of this one, etc..

After several thousand rounds, and quite a bit of abuse ("It has only been 3 months since I cleaned this, don't need to bother yet...), it has never failed. Not to eject, not to feed, not to fire, not to impress.
My girlfriend fell in love with it at first sight. Hopefully I'll get it back someday.

I have the same collection as Critter.... Geez, and I thought I was so original. I have one in 9mm and one in 357 SIG with an extra 40 S&W bbl. SIGs tend to be impressively accurate out of the box and both that I own fit that bill. They tote around comfortably for CCW and are completely reliable. If you are looking to pick one up on a bargain and don't mind buying "pre-owned" check with CDNN routinely. They get trade-ins regularly and sell them at an extremely reasonable price. My P229 is the gun I go to when I think something is going to go down. The reliability of that gun is unquestioned to me after I put 1500 rounds through it over 2 days for a pistol course. It didn't have a single problem at all. I think I was one of two or three guys who didn't have a single problem, both other guys were shooting Glocks.

You can get pre-owned Sigs in the mid $500 area. I think they call them "red box" guns or CPO's. They are great deals for the dollar. They're not perfect cosmetically but they are 100% functional and come with a 1 year warranty.

I totally agree with all the positive statements made so far. I have a 229 in .40 and IMO it is the best of the best when it comes to Sig Pistols.

I'm a S&W auto fan. Well, actually I was until I purchased a used P229. It's built tough and solid! I like the fact that the slide is milled from a single piece of stainless steel, not stamped. I like the grips and the feel. When I added a Steve Bedair stainless steel recoil rod http://bedair.org/P226/Guiderod.html, I liked it even more. SigSauer is my new found gunmaker. The S&W auto's have been traded away.

My 357 Sig P229 is my CCW pistol. I use a C-TAC IWB holster and she disappears. I put Hogue non-finger groove grips on her and she's like a part of my hand.

ATF and Secret Service carry the p229, and all the agents I've talked to love theirs.

IIRC, the P229 was designed with the .40 S&W cartridge in mind. They were made for each other, 'nuff said. Go out and shoot one. You'll end up buying one.

worth the cost! I bought a low milage used one about four years ago, with the Bar-sto .357 and the .40 barrel and two holsters for $750, then found out it had the pro shop trigger job when I dug through the case. I will never sell that gun, it runs and runs and runs, plus the first time you feel the sharp crack of a .357 sig, you'll be in love....

Can't really beat a Sig for many reasons. CPO, red *OR* blue box, is an even
bigger incentive.
