I like them all.........I actually have five stashed discretely at the ready around the house.
What I prefer is wood furniture, a corn cob forend, a metal triggergroup (and safety on a Mossberg), a slick 18 inch barrel, bead sight, and a sidesaddle. Low recoil 00 buckshot. I set them up at cruiser ready, and they all operate the same. You release the slide by pulling the trigger.

Isn't that precious, the fancy walnut and rifle sights. Unless I'm going deer hunting I'll stick with a bead thank you.

I fail to see what is goofy about having 120 lumens of light, a sling, and 6 spare rounds on a defensive shotgun. Granted my accessories may have run more $$ than your deer popper but that's okay.

My skill is equal to my equipment

Not a good picture but you guys know what an 870 with an 18.5" cylinder bore barrel looks like.

I keep it loaded with 4+1 of remington reduced recoil 2 3/4" 00 Buck.

I don't think i need much more to take out a burglar or fight across the house to my 1911 and more shotgun ammo or an M1A with 2 20 rounders loaded up.

I'm not into all that crap hanging off a shotgun or huge mag extensions.

Never had to use it but came close a few times after Katrina and before power was restored. Never once did I think to myself "geez I wish I had a flashlight and about 7 more rounds hanging off the the receiver!" But then again I live in a somewhat rural area and looters didn't tend to attack in organized groups.

I have an Ithaca shorty with a pistol grip, and a stock 870 with an 18 1/2" barrel.

If I was going to get a new one it would be the Winchester Practical.

http://www.winchesterguns.com/prodinfo/catalog/images/511016m.jpg

It would get need a SMALL light and it would be ready to rock n' roll. I have my shotgun vest ready to go right next to my shotgun so I can grab both at the same time. The vest carries all my ammo. I don't really like the feel of the side saddles.

Should have choosen someone else's daughter. Not even Chuck Norris can save him now :D

Looks like we got some well armed households on these boards. My only shotgun is a Remington 870 Wingmaster. It is currently set up with a 26 in barrel, fiber optic sights, and a turkey choke for small game hunting. I suppose I could put a shorter barrel on it and use it for home defense, but I feel sufficently armed with a Glock 20 and an AK. I will say that I have thousands of rounds through the 870 and I love it. It is almost impossible to make those things quit.
I will probably always be a rifleman, and if I have to bug out or turn to one weapon for a bad situation, it will probably be a rifle 9 times out of 10. I really want a MBR as my next firearm. But I am beginning to think that my lack of a good short(er) 12 gauge represents a serious void in my defenses. Those olive drab 870s do look sharp. Don't think I'll be able to hold out indefinately. One will probably end up coming home with me in the future.

O and you gotta love the shorty Tromix!

Some folks don't seem to think the Mossberg 835 is a very good HD gun, but when viewed from this angle, I'm pretty sure it's comparable to the Remington 870 or Winchester 1300;

As far as the Chinese M97's, IAC is the current importer (as far as I know). They range in price from around $350 to $400 depending on your source. Mine was $385 including tax, but some folks have gotten theirs for much less.

Current imports are from the so-called 6th generation which features improved manufacturing standards over earlier generations, one of which is the use of Missouri walnut stocks.

Where do the dual PG stocks fit into the equipment advantage? Did I miss the announcement that inaccurate wild followup shots was suddenly considered a good thing? Is your non shock isolated cheapo flashlight exploding when the shotty is fired also an advantage? Maybe if you attach it to the weapon with electrical tape it will handle the recoil better :uhoh: I should not say anything, PG stocks work great in the movies I'm sure it will rock in real life.....

Based on the AKM, 19" barrel, threaded chokes, 5 round magazine. 8 rd magazine available for about $100.00 ( too high for me) 10 rd magazines on the horizon for about $50.00.

Shoot 2.75 and 3" shells, low brass, hi-brass, slugs, anything, mix and match.

Can be converted to pistol grip, folding stock, etc., if desired. Very simple semi-auto with the reliability of the AK family.

Available in 12, 20 and .410.

As I understand they're still in "production", but with the popularity of the Saigas, it's only a matter of time until someone makes them.

It's already possible to take two five round mags and make a ten rounder.

Here is mine, side saddle, holo sights, adjustable stock and all. I like it so pooh on anybody that doesn't. LOL.....I actually shoot clays with this gun sometimes and the holo sites actually work (not with the dot on, but just lining up in the sight.

BTW....why would holo sights not be beneficial with a shotgun....it has been stated by many that hitting a target with a shotgun is not a given at close range b/c of the small amount of spread in a short distance. What about slugs?

Yes, I like shotguns. *Almost* as much as I like rifles and handguns.

So here are some pics of all of them, including the home defense shottie at the bottom.

Bottom to top, we have three 12 gauges, three 20 guages, one .410 longgun, one .410 revolver, and one .22 cal air shotgun:

Bottom to top:
1. (semi-auto) Saiga-12, 19", 12 ga 2.75 & 3.0", with Armson OEG, ACE accessories, and Streamlight TLR-2.
2. (single shot) Remington/Baikal Spartan SPR94 12 ga 2.75 & 3.0" and .223 rem bbl (scope for the .223, irons for the shotgun)
3. (semi-auto) NEF Excel Auto 5 Turkey, 22", 12 ga 2.75 & 3.0" (if you can see it on my comforter :) )
4. (semi-auto) Winchester 1400, 26", 20 ga 2.75 & 3.0"
5. (SxS) CZ/Huglu Durango, 20", 20 ga 2.75 & 3.0"
6. (single shot) Savage 12 F, 24", 20 ga 2.75 & 3.0" and .22lr (scope for BOTH the .22 and the shotgun)
7. (single shot) NEF Survivor, 20", .410 bore 2.75 & 3.0" and .45 colt
8. (revolver) Taurus Tracker 5-shot, .410 bore, 2.75" only
9. (single shot) Gamo Viper Express, .22 cal air shotgun

:) :)

A little odd, though, that all those shotguns and no pumps. I'm gonna have to add a pump. I've had 3 in the past but sold or gave them all away (Rem 870 xpress, Win 1300, and Mossberg 500A). I like my 12 gauges to be semi-auto, to lessen recoil, but I'm not opposed to a 20 or 28 or .410 pump.

Cool phone

Hehe. That thing is at least as old as I am, if not older. It used to belong to my parents, but they tossed it in a junk bin after they installed a wireless set. I "liberated" it a couple of years ago. It still works, and it was free. :p

Sweet phone.

It'll come in handy when the power goes out ... while the rest of us .... ya know, the "sophisticated ones" try to figure out how to make a phone call with our energy dependent cordless phones. :uhoh:

Yes, that part DID factor into my thinking when I "liberated" it. :D

Particularly since around here we get an average of 5 or 6 power outages a year.

yeah ... I've got a simpler version that I bought a couple of years ago. I think someone borrowed it .... need to find that thing ... keep forgetting about it.

They're not easy to find these days.

EOTech 552
Streamlight TLR-2 (took it of the Glock for the pic but have a TLR-1 on the way)
6-round side saddle
Ontario Knife Co M9 bayonet (Zombie stand-off unit) NOT IN PIC

All you see in the pic PLUS the M9 Zombie Standoff Unit (bayonet) and a full 15 rounds of 00 buck (8+1 plus 6 in the side saddle) weighs 12 lbs and I can lighten it up right quick ;-)

Bought a pallet of ammo from ammoman in NJ (split with a friend). Have put a couple of thousand rounds down the pipe and she eats anything and everything. Magnum slugs used to be a bitch - now... less of a bitch.

Hey, FJ55
How does that Eotech work on that shotgun? Its something I don't see much. How is your cheek weld and how is its pointability?
I have been curious about that for some time.
thanks,

Wow, wish I could have a shorter barrel.

It really is a matter of personal taste.

I find that the balance of an 18 inch barrel without a magazine extension is perfect.

It may not look as cool, but results count.

It's my old grouse gun from when I was a kid. I added:

20" IC barrel
Wilson Combat +2 magazine extension
Tacstar flashlight mount
Streamlight Scorpion flashlight
Buttstock shelldholder
Old sling from an SKS

It's very light and handles well.

Hey Sig357, how do you have that sling attached to your 500 in the front? I have the same model and I attached it to a stud screwed into the front of the mag tube, but I think I like your method better. What's the mount?

SiG357
June 13, 2008, 02:42 PM
Actually there is no mount.

It's wrapped around the barrel.

I have since moved it to the mag tube. The TLR-2 mount keeps it from moving into the slide.

The only thing that I'll really like to put on it is a sling and a light so that I can see the target if it's dark.

I have a REAL vested interest in identifying a target before I shoot.

I usually prefer to keep my shotguns kind of light, but I think that the light's worth the added weight.

That shotgun's one of the lightest I've ever held, so the added weight won't be all that much anyway.

No picture of the newest yet, it's your everyday, ordinary Mossberg 930SPX. Once my shell holder arrives, I expect it to look quite a bit like this one except that my shell holder will be plastic, not elastic.

I'm drooling over that USAS.......

Here's mine, a basic Mossberg 500 with some polymer (personal preference over the wood, as is the pistol grip over the regular stock). I know putting ammo on the side is both a sin and utterly immoral, but easy reloading is so tempting for us talentless sorts who have to spray ammo everywhere to approach the godlike accuracy of those with wooden furniture on their guns.
