(see picture)

Does anyone make a Weaver or Picatinny rail that replaces the "Sight Rail Thing" on a Saiga 12?

Please forgive me as this isn't an answer to your question, but...

How do you like the Saiga 12? Is it reliable? How much do mags cost?

I don't have one yet ... still saving my pennies for my next gun purchase.

But at this point I'm torn between buying a Saiga 12 (and making it look all scary) or an FN Self Loading Police.

The purpose of the shotgun would be home defense and eventual 3-gun shooting (oh and frightening antis is always fun).

I'd PM Corria about the sights. He's very knowledgable about Saiga 12s.

And yes mine is ULTRA reliable with BOTH 5 and 8 rd. mags...Try Tromix or Krebs for aftermarket goodies :-)

I have a Saiga-12 and it is awesome. I’ve put about 100 rounds through mine with only one problem. I had a round hand up while being stripped from the magazine during a reload. I just jammed forward on the bolt carrier handle and it fed and shot fine.

Magazines are about $35-$40 for five round magazines. AGP Arms (www.agparms.com) is working on ten round magazines and they cost about $49-$59 with quantity discounts.

I considered the FN Self Loading Shotgun as well, however after seeing how long it took people to reload a traditional semi-auto shotgun (M1S90, 11-87, 1100) during 3-gun competitions I went with the Saiga. Loading a traditional shotgun is clumsy and slow (IMO).

Don’t know what kind of machining skills you have, but there is always this option:

i donno much about 3 gun, but i heard a saiga will automaticly put you in a higher class. so you may have a stock pistol and rifle. but even a stock saiga will put you in a higher class

Hoppy590, you are correct ... which is the main reason I would consider the SLP over the Saiga.

But I don't ever expect to be all that competitive so its not that big a deal to me to have to compeate in open class or unlimited or whatever its called.

If you find out about mounting a rail, please post. I'm also curious.

I got your PM.

Right now there isn't a non-custom top rail for the 12. I've heard that Ultimak is working on one that will fit the S12, but I don't know when it will be available. Ultimak stuff is awesome. Halo has a rail also, but it isn't in production yet. It is going to be pricey, but Tony Rumore has seen it, and says that it is the hotness.

50cal, check my webpage. I'm a distributor. You can order one from me and have it shipped to your FFL.

They are extremely reliable.

Last night was the annual Utah 3gun night match. For a shotgun, I used a custom Tromix Saiga 12, with an 8 inch barrel with mounted flashlight. It ran on everything... Literally. :p I was given a big bucket of assorted (supposedly) 12 guage ammo from a friend of mine. (who I used to trust ;) ) It had 2 3/4 and 3 inch ammo. Everything from birdshot to 00 buck. The only time that the shorty malfunctioned was when we fired 16 gauge through it! (you can't see the difference in the dark!) Luckily we realized what was going on, and stopped before we blew ourselves up.

FWIW, the RAAC import Saigas have the optic bracket on the side that allows you to clamp on an optics mount.
