Is there a powder that will work for both 270 Winchester and 30-06? Just picked up a 270 for my son and looking forward to deer hunting in the fall. I am planning on using a 130 grain bullet for the 270 and 150 or 180 grain bullets for the 30-06.

My dealer recommended AA 2700 for the 180 grain 30-06. I have loaded IMR 4895 for the 30-06 but don't know if it would work well with the 270.

Neal, all you can do is pick the powders out of the manuals and test.I have a friend that uses IMR4350 in his 270 with the 130gr and I use the IMR4350 with great sucess in my 30-06 with the 150gr.
You might also look at the IMR4831.

Good luck

Hodgdon's H4831 works well in both. Don't confuse the load data with IMR4831 though!

IMR 4064, IMR 4320, WW 748, RL-7.

I believe all of them will work in both of these rounds.

I can get my 3 shot 270's to group the size of a nickel at 100 yards with that powder and Hornady's 130gr SST's.

4831 works great in the .270, but as was commented above, match the data to the specific type of 4831.

I started out with 4064 for my 150-grain through 180-grain '06 loads. Still using it; same old load gets the same old results, no matter the brand of primer or bullet. I use 3031 with 110-grain varmint loads. Hey, after 53 years, why change?

The first, and only, powder I've tried for my '06 is IMR4350. It has yielded excellent results with a 165 gr. BTSP bullet. I may get around to trying another powder someday, but I'm not sure when. Being a lazy reloader, I figure why mess with success?
