I saw a mtn gun in a shop yesterday. I am almost positive it said 625-5. I was also under the impression it was in 45 colt. My blue book does not show this pistol. Can anyone give me any info? Also is $460 otd too much for a 98+% pistol?
Thanks,
Mike

I have a 25-5, the N frame in .45 LONG :p Colt, with a 4" barrel. Since the "6" designates a SS revolver, I'd expect similar performance to mine, which is excellent, not rare in Nframes...

The MG(Mountain Gun) 625 should be a 625-6 and have a 4" barrel if it's a 45 LC chambered gun. SN should start CAY45 or something like that. There were different variations of the 625-5, but not in a MG configuration that I'm aware of. There are others who know 625s so maybe they can comment. You can ask if it has a box and get the product code from the box or post a partial SN like I did above. That would help narrow this particular 625 down.
Around here guns are expensive, like everything else, so anything under $500 for an N-Frame in good to excellent condition is alright.
As for caliber it could be 45 Long Colt or 45 ACP. There was a run of 45 ACP MGs in 2000, those should be 625-7s. All 625-5s should be 45 Long Colt.

Off-topic, but does anyone know the differences between each revision from 625-3 through 625-6? I have a couple choices available to me on the auction sites.
Thanks,
Robert

I traded a dealer for a NIB 625-9 45LC MG about three months ago. It was priced at $550. with the Ahrends cocobolo grips if that helps you with prices any. PS - It is a very well made and very accurate revolver. I shot it again yesterday.

My 625 MG, late 2001 vintage, was bought new 8/02 for $499. The same dealer replaced mine with a Magna Ported version in his new S&W case for $519. He now has the Ahrends gripped version (with hammer lock), a special for the local (Birmingham, AL) 'Bangers' distributor, for $549. I loved my .45 Colt MG... until I got a .44 version (629MG) later last fall. I really like the 629MG, my first .44, mainly with .44 Specials and Russians. Great looking revolvers - especially with the S&W #21991 square-round butt conversion grips ($62.27 from S&W).
