If you want to stick with a tactical type scope to match your DPMS:

I really like the Nikon Buckmasters 4.5-14x 40mm Mil Dot Scope I have on my long range DPMS. IMHO it's the best scope for $275. A lot of people like Super Sniper scopes, but I don't think the optics are any better and they're fixed power and cost a lot more. Leupold Tactical would be the most expensive of the bunch (as much as the DPMS rifle itself, or more).

Best bang for the buck for long range shooting? My vote goes for the Bushnell Elite 3200 10x40 for about $199 anywhere on the web.

For a short range tactical scope, many folks like the Bushnell Elite 3200 1.5-4.5x32 with the Firefly reticle. It'll run you about $220, most places.

It all depends on how you expect to use your rifle.

Paper punching out to 300 yards, you can get by with a 3-9x hunting scope. Just stay away from the cheap Chicom junk (poor durability and wandering zeros). Burris, Leupold, Nikon are good as are high-end Bushnell and Weaver.

I've got an M-1A with a 10x Super Sniper. 10x makes range estimating easier. Its good to go for any target between 100 and 800 yards.

I also use a 5.5-22x50 Nightforce on a 338 Lapua for shots out to 1,300 yards.

I'd stay away from Simmons as they're known for being just about the worst scopes made. Not sure about Sightron.

There are plenty of good recommendations listed above. The DPMS is a great rifle - VERY accurate. In my opinion you shouldn't buy a scope any cheaper than $200. For a scope mount, the one-piece made by Armalite (www.armalite.com) is pretty good at $85.

Most people have very good things to say about the Sightron line. I finally bought one, their cheap S1 3-9 mil-dot for $100 and put on a K31. Shooting it this weekend against another K31 with a $200 Burris 3-9 I'd go with the Sightron again in a heartbeat. Absolutely no movement, glass as good as the Burris and much more eye relief. As far as the LR308 goes, I figure you got it for long distance shooting so go with a fairly high power. Super Snipers have a great reputation and I've heard good things about the Bushnell 4200 series. Gonna put one of those Bushnell 3200 10x on my PTR 91. Glad I got a C&R license, that $200 scope just became a $150 scope.;)

Shooting witches is really frowned upon.

Shooting witches is really frowned upon.

They're still legal up in New England. Old tradition, there.

Okay, enough making fun of typos.

Have you looked at the IOR Valdada (http://www.valdada.com/) line? DSA (http://www.dsarms.com) markets them.

I think these scopes would be excellent for the LR-308. Problem is, these are not inexpensive scopes. They are top quality, though.

I am saving my pennies, lots of them, for this scope to put on my M1A. It should work fine with any 7.62 (.308) based platform, or anything else you want to put it on.

You can get super snipers for $299 that's $25 more than the one you described, and that is by no means alot more, and i think they are some of the finest around for the money. I personally don't mind the fixxed power, that is what the military use on the m24's. i have had no problems with fixed powered before, especially when it is onl;y a 10x! Just my opinon!

Bushnell Elite 3200 w/firefly and the IOR 2-12x32 are on my "must buy ASAP" list.
