Built up an AR on an oly arms lower, with an A2 butt. WAY too long: I guess the children have gotten bigger.
So, swapped back to the A1, (thanks for the help with the screw, all!) which brought me back to happiness, more or less, since I no longer wear the flak jacket that I once did.
Anyway, saw the "butt over the shoulder" photo of a Marine, I think, sighting his M16, and wondered if it made sense. 10 into a 20 round mag, A1 butt, and out for a try.
At least in semi, it makes sense. If you can't get your eye to the rear sight to your happiness, you can simply extend the butt over your shoulder, and you're in business. The .223 isn't that powerful, and your required stong side grip position restrains the 9 lb rifle.
And, if I had to use an A2, that's where I'd go.
Then, too, I liked the triangular A1 front stocks a lot better than I like the cylindrical A2's.
Anyway, the position made sense, at least at short range.
Sorry if I've repeated somebody else's comments/thread.
