am considering the DO ALL;s competitor model. its about 30 bucks. in this day & age of " you get what you pay for", will this product get the clays out to 40 yards or so before much drop?..i know cocking & loading will be slow, etc. & thats ok..i.m just looking for a functional, entry level tosser. any 1st hand opinions? is Hoppe's " stay put model any better?...thanks

Over the years I have seen several shooters use the Hoppes trap, and break more birds than they should.I had the same luck with a Hoppes years ago.
Then I bought a Competitor and had the same "luck".
I posted this on a BB,and people said not to overtighten the spring, just take the slack out of it.I haven't had a chance to test the theory, but they swear it works great.I guess I wantd more yardage than it's reallyd designed for.
I much prefer my Trius one-step.....mainly 'cause I can go shoot by myself if necessary. It's more than twice the price, but more than twice the trap,IMHO.
iF you decide to try the competitior, just take the slack out of the spring, don't "go for broke" on tension.

Just get a Trius 1-step ;)
I balked at the $100 pricetag initially, but after using a friend's Hoppe's thrower I know the Trius was worth every penny.

Trius 1-step is the best thrower for the money. No stakes. No setup at all in fact. No fighting the spring.
My bride can operate mine with ease.
I can just take it out of the car. Put it on the ground and start throwing.
Sportsmans Guide has them on sale quite often.
Those throwers that you have to attach to a tire or stake down are a real pain.
The next best value is those red plastic/nylon hand throwers. They can really get 'em out there for cheap but of course you'll likely need a buddy to toss 'em for ya.

Hear hear. I took my trius one-step out of the trunk of the car yesterday, set a box of 90 clays next to it, and shot them all (well, I threw them all) at a liesurely pace in an hour. Chucks singles easily 40 yards on the rise; doubles not quite so far. Haven't had it break a clay yet. Ninety bucks at Dick's.
