Yes and no. This is a characteristic of the gun.
However, there is a ring nut that holds the wood on the slide. It can be tightened.
A few things...
Check the foreend. Even when it's loose, you can turn it with a firm grip so it isn't rubbing the barrel. You could probably also put some sticky stuff inside the foreend where it fits into the metal ring, but I've never bothered. I did sand down my foreend a bit and refinished the sanded part, but that didn't change much.
B/C Perma Blue paste in a tube for a few bucks, applied with a Q-tip, will fix the rub mark.
Bottom line, it doesn't really hurt anything.

Not necessarily.
If you field strip the gun, you'll find that the magazine tube is no longer in the way. You can use a piece of flat stock (got a metal ruler?) that will fit across the slots to tighten the nut. Hint: start with the action open, center the forearm on the receiver and finger- tighten the nut as much as you can (assuming it's that loose) before removing the forearm and action bar assembly from the gun. Try to keep the forearm in the same place on the tube as you tighten the nut so it won't be off center and rub when you reinstll it.
Granted it's a lot easier to do with the proper tool, but you can improvise sometimes and get by...

Large needlenose pliers might also work. Tackle shops often have 'em for cheap.

A large mill file works, also. Grip it with a vise-grip pliers if you need more leverage.
And the file has other uses...the special forearm toll probably doesn't.:)
