i already have a 1911 so dont need that.

Im looking for a high cap .45 that has a rail for a light. Also looking for SA/DA so i can carry +1, hammer down. I have large hands so a big grip is not a problem.

My dad has a H&K usp .45 and i like that a lot, but i dont think i want the same gun he has because i can use it whenever i want.

besides springfield xd, and the usp what other options are there?

Once the XD-45 is on the table, what other options do you need?

Well, I'm an XD fan - but don't take my word for it. Do a search for "XD" on this forum and read through some of the recent threads. It's been the subject of much discussion of late.

Glock 21 -- 13+1 rounds, accessory rail....and a very soft shooter.

The CZ 97 is another option. Doesn't have a tac-rail, though.

Glock 21: 13+1 rounds of .45ACP, has a lightrail, lends itself very well to mods, tritium sights are available.

I sent mine to Robar for a grip reduction and recontour - they got rid of the hump at the rear of the mag well, rounded & undercut the trigger guard, textured the grip area with a "Rhinoliner" texture.

It now fits the human hand (:D) and lives up to its potential; with the Robar mods, it is an outstanding gun.

Glock 21 -- definitely see if you can handle one and ideally fire it before committing to that one. Ergonomics are what I'd call poor, and I have large hands -- sold mine after buying a 1911. Some people love the G21, though, so it may work well for you.

Strengths: Glock reliability, good range of aftermarket stuff, magazines from Glock are cheap and reliable.

Downsides: Gaston built this one for mountain gorillas or something. Worst ergonomics of any Glock pistol, in my opinion.

Taurus 24/7 -- I think they have a Pro version out now that is DA/SA. I used to own a standard one.

Strengths: Very nice overall size for a high cap 45 ACP pistol. External manual safety. Good ergonomics, grip sized for mere mortal humans unlike the G21. Taurus lifetime warranty.

Weaknesses: I personally did not care for the long DA trigger on the one I owned. If this does not bug you, not an issue. Or get the DA/Sa one and not an issue.

CZ 97 -- I don't own one of these (yet) but it's another one people say to check out the grip size versus your hand size on. Does not feel as bad the as G21 to me in the gunstore, but I haven't had one on the range yet. If it's half that pistol of my P-01 and SP-01 it's probably the best option on the list, +/- the tac rail issue.

The only other alternative that jumps to mind is the high cap 1911s, though you're not looking for one of those. Or wait until the new HK 45 hits the market.
