From CNN:

Gun rights was another constitutional issue raised Saturday.

Stephanopoulos challenged Lieberman to defend the proposal that presidential candidate Al Gore had when the two ran on the same ticket in 2000 -- the licensing of all newly bought handguns.

Surprisingly, Lieberman said he never supported the proposal, which he said Gore came up with before he came on board.

Sen. Joe Lieberman, left, former Sen. Carol Moseley Braun, center, and Dean
"The American citizens have a right to own firearms," he said. "Licensing, registration, in my opinion, are bad ideas and violations of that fundamental right."

When Stephanopoulos then asked whether any of the candidates would support licensing and registration of handguns, Sharpton was the only one to say that he would.

"I think that we must do whatever we can to regulate how guns are used," he said.

Saying that if NJ Democrats got behind the 2nd amendment, there would never be another Republican elected in NJ EVER AGAIN.

That's frightening on too many levels to comment on.

Is there anyone in the U.S. with half a brain that believes these liars?

Looks like Lieberman has had a 'come home to Jesus' moment (yeah, I know he's a Jew). Somebody has been whispering sweet nothings in his ear about poll data - if you want a chance in hell of being elected president, you better start making nice-nice with gun owners, stat!

But isn't Lieberman one of the scoundrals behind the 'close the gun show loophole' abortion? Talk about violating a law-abiding gun owner's rights! If they start doing background checks on Joe Blow selling his gun to Joe Six Pack at a gun show, how long until they start demanding background checks on transactions in my living room?

IIRC, there was an issue a while back where posts would triple-up. Wondering if it is the same thing now.

My browser did a dump and froze on this end, thus the three posts.

I have been properly chastised and I take full responsibility for the errors of my past ways.

Lieberman's lying. But it's still nice to see that they've figured out that they have to kowtow to our Eeeeevil Special Interest Group, rather than the other side's Eeeeeeevil Special Interest Group.

Vote for a representative of the Democratic (sic) party? I'd sooner vote for a communist: the communist is at least honest about his agenda.

That includes any means including misrepresenting and outright lying when it's required for the greater good. We have a great track record of liberal political types claiming one thing re: gun control and executing another once they are in office and safe from the voters

My greatest hope is that their "imaginary turn" to our side of the issue may starve the Brady Bunch enough for support and funds that they fold up their tents, cancel Sara's $200,000 plus salary, and slink out of town. I don't think Sara will be a featured speaker at the next Demo convention and they may not even tell her where they are holding it.

I don't think any of the candidates, except maybe Al Sharpton, truly believe in anything, except what their pollsters tell them they need to believe this week to stay up in the ratings.

The mistake they are all making is assuming that the liberal Democratic base, that is most vocal in the primaries - the Pelosi-Daschle-Schumer wing of the party, truly represents the majority of Americans.

Just my opinion but ... most gun owners are not going to go by a politically motivated speech or two. We have been sold out too many times to buy that story. We'll wait to see actual change in how they vote and what they support, starting with their point if view on the AWB sunset.

I know a bunch of us have "secret" identities over on the DU and some of the discussion in the Public Safety forum is actually fairly reasonable and relatively well informed, (except for the occasional regular DU user that finds it and rants about evil guns and how the next Attorney General should go door to door to confiscate all handguns).

But boy, once you leave the "gun dungeon" the level of hate and malevolence towards Bush and the Republicans in general is staggering to me. I have never seen such anger and frustration. Much of it directed against other Democrats that aren't "True Believers" in hard left liberalism/socialism/marxism.

In the General Discussion area I have actually seen posts that were angry that more American's did not die in Iraq, "just to teach the Bushistas and Americans a lesson". Wow!

The forums are open again to the general public. If you haven't been over there you should really check out a couple of forums to see what kind of anger we're dealing with.

Plus you will be thrown off for even suggesting any alternative point of view from the hard left.

Whew!

For starters, if you want REALLY bad, don't go to DemocraticUnderground, go to MsMagazine (forget the site, maybe it's msmagazine.com?)

The most headed arguments on there are who's the coolest, Lenin or Stalin (gets quite vicious). This is not DU - it's worse, it's BAD.

I believe these politicians, and I don't.

They're not going to get licencing/registration now, so no point spending points over it.

That said, they'll be the first to do it in a "post-columbine" situation. Someone goes postal, they'll have a revelation, an epiphany, and try and slide something through as quickly as possible.

A more important issue, to more people, is wealth redistribution. . . . that's their sure winner. You can ALWAYS identify 51% of the people, and promise them the fruit of the labor of the other 49%, and win.
