Whatever it wants too eat~!!! (:D Laughing Loudly:D :D :D )
Seriously, I own a Springer XD-.45 ACP as well as well 'em everyday.
For "shoot 'em up" (range ammo) its kind'a hard too beat REM-UMC
230 grain FMC, Mag-Tech 230 grain FMC, or WW (white box) 230
grain ball ammo.
For close encounters of a more serious kind, I prefer 230 grain Speer
Gold Dots, 230 grain Federal Hydra-Shoks, 230 grain Hornady TAP JHP's,
or Rem 230 grain Golden Sabre's. Actually, I carry the 200 grain Hornady
TAP JHP's in my 3" aluminum frame Kimber Stainless Ultra Carry II, on a
daily basis. However, I haven't tried the 200 grainer's in my 4" service
model XD?

I have had my XD about 4 months now. I had a bunch of 45 ammo that was of different brands, bullet weights, etc. The only thing that it had in common was that it was all pretty much crap stuff!
I fired all of it through the XD and the gun just ate it all up with nary a hiccup nor burp. My conclusion is that the XD (at least my XD) will take just about any ammo and do quite well. FWIW:)

I usually shoot CCI Blazer (aluminum case) in my XD-45 and it runs well.

Ala Dan, what do you think of the XD .45 in comparison to the glock 21?

I have always found the G21 to be comfortable to shoot, and highly reliable. I find that the XD45 grip is even better, and I think the XD trigger is superior to Glock. I haven't had the XD long enough, or fired enough rounds through it, to draw any final conclusions. My basis of comparison for both of these guns is the Platonic form of semiatuos- my Colt Mk IV Series 70 1911, which I have had since the 1970s and through which I have fired many thousands of rounds.
The biggest advantages to me of the "Tupperware artillery" over the 1911 are:
1) I'm a lefty, and have never been able to get along well with the 1911 safety, even ambidextrous ones. The Glock / XD fixes this.
2) The XD has an ambidextrous magazine release. Curiously enough, I find that with my large hands, it's still more comfortable and natural to use the index finger of my left hand to release the empty mag.
3-5) Cleaning, cleaning, cleaning. I am more likely to shoot my Glocks or XD than the 1911, because cleaning is so much easier and less time-consuming.
RE: the issue of reliability. I have fed the XD Winchester 230 gr. BEB ammo, and two flavors of my own reloads, with 200 and 230 gr. bullets, and it has digested them all without complaint.

That's a pretty accurate description of my own experiences with the glock 21. How did recoil and second-shot placement compare between the XD and the glock 21 for you?

I observed a guy with his new XD45 having failures to feed and to eject. Long story short, FMJ ball rounds produced no more failures. Turns out his XD didn't like the semi-wad cutters he was feeding. Funny part was, his gun dealer/supplier/store sold him the semi-wad cutters just for his pistol.
I was helping him debug his gun. checked the ejector. checked the feed ramp. tried different magazines. tried different XDs. finally the range officer jumped in with ball ammo. no more failures. It was the ammo.
