I've wanted one of these since I was too little to know what the calibers were. The local gun shop has one in the finish I like that a guy changed his mind about after he ordered it. Now the catch is I don't have any ranges around that rent guns. I'm wondering what kind of recoil I'm looking at with this thing. I'm good with .44mags and with the weight of the gun + the gas operated it shouldn't be much more. But I may be wrong. Also what does ammo for those things go for? If I'd want to reload I'd have to justify the prices since I'd have to buy for it. So if the ammo isn't that bad I'll buy loaded.

I figured I'd try, I got some good advice when I was looking for my .45auto so I'm going to hope for the best.

Thanks for any help

www.ammoman.com has .50 AE ammo for $16/20 rd box, with a 5 box minimum order. That price includes shipping.

I've had the chance to fire two different DE's, one in .44 Mag the second in .50AE. Both were almost religious experiences.:D

The first one I fired was the .44 Mag. Recoil was very similar to the medium loaded .357's I was shooting in my Model 19. The recoil of the .50AE was like medium to warm .44 Mag loads in a Super Blackhawk I used to own. Nothing like the hand destroying, elbow breaking, pry the gun from my forehead recoil I was led to expect. All in all, great fun. If I ever get the chance to buy one I'll snap it up in a heartbeat.

IMO, the .50 AE DEP (6") is no more brutal than a .44 mag revolver (I am comparing to against a 9½" SRH). Samson and Speer ammo. It is not a direct comparison as the grip shape between the two are a bit different but it's as close a comparison I can get. Certainly, well below a .454 C single action.

RCBS has dies but the cases still need to be lubed for resizing.

I've shot about every load out of the S&W 629 classic I've been able to load or get my hands on. Nothing has seemed to bad. I've always heard just people talking that the .50 is crazy recoil. I like these opinions I'm getting here. Making my wallet feel heavy:evil:

Hope you enjoy it. I had one in .357. Not a very practical gun, but fun nonetheless.

Well I had to go play with it:D

Nowhere near as bad as I expected on the recoil. Feels kind of like a hot .44mag. I'm doing good with the side to side, but I think the weight of the gun is messing me up. I'm up and down on the target at 25yds.

Not practical but who really cares. Only down side is at a buck a shot I may have to keep it in hte safe more than the other guns. Fun to shoot I've got to say.

Thanks for the advice everybody

oh yeah here's the newest member of my family:)
