why is there no forward assist on the carbon-15 line of ARs? Its still direct gas right? Not rotating bolt? Is it somehow less dirty or complicated than normal ARs?
Another carbon15 question, are the professional ordnance ones under bushy warranty too?

Waaaaay back when Mr. Stoner designed the first AR rifles, they didn't have a forward assist either. It was something the US military wanted. You will find people that think it is useless and those that swear it is the best thing since sliced bread.

They didn't have flat tops nor collapsing buttstocks either.

Flat tops and collapsible buttstocks do not affect the operation of the firearm.

it would have to be metal, it would be a weight, strength of gun in that receiver area, type issue. totally unecessary, if you even remotely clean your ar now and again.

I've never used the forward assist on my AR's... but I've used it on all the M16's I've been issued. :uhoh:
I had a kid in my squad call it a "dirty weapon check", if you had to use it, it ment there was sand in the weapon, LOL.

The only time I've used the FA is when doing a press check.

I bought my AR15 new in the box (literally, it was handed to me in its cardboard shipping box which I threw away) in 1978 or 79 and it doesn't have a forward assist. As noted the FA wasn't part of the original design and was added bt demand of the Army when the Vietnam guns jammed due to the Army buying ammo loaded with ball power despite Stoner's cautions against it.
In nearly 30 years* of shooting this gun I have yet to need a FA and the gun is much slimmer without it..
*30 years!!!?? Holy crap!

hmmm well this may be a SHTF HD gun so hopefully it can take some water/some other crap. At least not so much surface rust. And light as hell. If I got a pro-ordnance, would bushy fix some of the problems? I hear they do.

The forward assist is not really needed for a semi auto only weapon that gets carried from the case to the range and then back home. I've only used my forward assist once, besides press checks. It was to more quietly close the bolt on a live round in a possible home defense situation. I rode the charging handle down on the round, then used the F A to fully close the bolt. Worked alot better than slamming the carrier home and giving up the element of surprise. Thankfully the potential B/G's left... I'd rather have it and not need it and all that jazz though:scrutiny: !

yes it would mostly be used for plinking n such. But I would like to be able to shoot a thousand and still be reliable. So hopefully this will be up to it.
