I have enjoyed shooting the XD 9 & 357sig. They seem to hold up okay (although I have seen 2 broke guide rods in 2 separate rental XD's). I would chalk up the breakage to range abuse more than I would a true fault. There have been a few threads here from XD owners that just rave over their guns!

If they are anything like their XD service model counterparts, you'll love it. As a Glock owner, I really scrutinized this pistol. I really didn't think I would ever own another polymer pistol. With the exception of the finish, I like it better than my Glock. Needless to say, my next polymer pistol purchase will not be a Glock. I'm looking at the Bi-tone XD.

but its not the kinda gun you display on the wall is it?

for me the boreline is way to high above the hand......the higher the boreline the less stability you have..........thats the ONLY thing i like about glocks, they have LOW borelines

Care to elaborate on that? What exactly do you hate about them - and what about a Glock makes it superior? Have you ever fired one - or is this yet another typical knee-jerk post from a threatened Glock lover? My apologies if you HAVE fired one and still hate them, but I've seen SO many negative posts about the XD made by people who have no personal experience with it whatsoever. I'd love to hear the specifics otherwise.

I have nothing but respect for Glocks & think they're great guns. So are the XDs. Neither is perfect either. C'mon guys... it's OK if they're BOTH good guns. Competition like that is nothing but GREAT for all of us. It raises the bar for ALL of the manufacturers.

...and as far as it being "ugly", well... that horse has been beaten to death here recently (run a search) and comes down to personal preference - but y'all knock yourselves out if you want. I happen to LIKE its looks - especially the Bi-Tone (stainless slide) XD-9 4" Service model that I bought.

Pretty much everything you'll read here (and at www.xdtalk.com ) by people who have personal experience with an XD is overwhelmingly positive (including many posts by current & former Glock owners). As far as the sub-compact specifically, I have not fired one myself, but every range report I've read so far says they shoot just as good and accurately as the 4" - which is to say VERY good. I say rent & SHOOT whatever you're considering and decide for yourself. I bet you'll love the XD if you give it a chance.
