I've seen in the Shotgun news you can buy AK receivers, only with an FFL. What kind of registration do you have to do in Kalifornia, if you buy one thru a FFL.???? :banghead:

You can't. AK and its variants are on the list of evil guns that aren't allowed to be sold/transferred in the state. Read up on it here (http://caag.state.ca.us/firearms/awguide/index.html).

Hey Doger,
The deal is this: there are 2 Assault Weapons Ban laws in Kali.

The first law: the Roberti-Roos Act outlaws weapons based upon their name. This law also gives power to the State Attorney General to ADD new names to the list.
(forget about constitutionality issues..the CA Supreme court has given this law a thumbs UP)

The Second Law: SB23 which defines an Assault Weapon based upon certain characteristics (such as a pistol grip, or "flash hider" ,etc)

The ONLY way you can get an "AK47" clone in Kali is if (1.) the specific name of the rifle is not on the list of weapons listed in the Roberti Roos Act or the AK series list that our State Attorney General added to this law AND (2.) the rifle in question does NOT have enough definining characteristics which would cause it to be defined as an Assault Weapon under SB23.

For example..suppose a new manufacturer in Nevada started business, and started to make "AK47" type rifles..and they named their "AK47" rifles BillLockyerBiteMeNow47

And suppose this rifle had NO pistol grip or flash hider or folding stock or bayonet lug...

Since the rifle in question has NOT yet been added to the list by Attorney General Bill Lockyer..and since the rifle does NOT have enough defining characteristics to be considered an Assault Weapon under SB23..

The rifle would be perfectly legal in Kalifornia until it's name has been added to the list, in which case you would be given a very short period of time in which you would have to register the weapon or surrender it or move it out of state or destroy it.

There are a few newly created AK clones out there that are temporarily legal to get since they haven't been added by Lockyer.

However, unless you possessed Hi Cap Mags before the Ban (and can prove it) having such mags is illegal.

There are some alternatives..you might want to consider saving up for an M1A..Springfield Armory makes a Kalifornia Legal version by replacing the flash hider with a muzzle brake.
