In one of my rescent threads I was pointed towards one of these as being in my price range. I think these are usually called the sigma series, Im not to sure because I stopped looking at S&W when they added internal locks on their revolvers.
How much sould I expect to pay for magazines, does it come with 2 magazines?
Anyone have any pictures of one other than the ones the S&W site has?
Does it have an internal lock, I know all there new guns have mag. disconects but Id rather not have a CCW with an internal lock.
Anyone have any experience with it reliability/tolerances?

It's a solid entry level pistol that is suitable for self-defense applications. General positive comments have been that Sigmas (9VE, 40VE etc) are ergonomically great. Accuracy is better than average. Reliability is average for a CCW gun (which to me means that mine fires everytime I pull the trigger and feeds the next round without failure). There will be lots of replys to this thread citicizing the triggerpull, BTW. I'm of the opinion that it can be mastered and therefore is immaterial.
The gun ships from the factory with 2 mags. If that's not what you get, somebody is ripping you off.
Mags are $40 each from S&W (sometimes you can find them cheaper on auction sites, internet venders, and gunboard WTS sections).
No lock................yet.
No mag disconnects.
Don't have any pics of my particular gun, but do a search on www.smith-wessonforum.com in the autopistol section and you'll find lots of people like them and lots of picutres.

Ergos are great, trigger leaves something to be desired. Overall a good solid pistol. 9VE Sigmas are going for $300 at the big box stores, and the Ruger P-Series are the only other widely available quality autos I know of in that price range. I've recently looked into the CZ 40P in 40 S&W simply based on price. These are well liked by the CZ guys and very reasonably priced, www.budsgunshop.com has them for $287. Add the standard $20 dealer fee and around $20 to ship, comes out at around $330 for another nice option in that price range. Keep in mind that for some the recoil from a 40 S&W can be a bit snappy, but its not bad. The caveat is that I don't think it's bad, but I was shooting full house 357 mags at 13 and was proficient with a 40 S&W Glock before I turned 18, so I was never intimidated by recoil. I think much of this has to do with mentality. If you're expecting the recoil to be bad it probably will be. If you say to yourself "there are 12 year olds who shoot their parents' 40s and 45s very well, so I'll be just fine" you probably will be. If you like the SW9VE Sigma go for it. They're a good value at $300, and come with S&Ws lifetime warranty.

SW9VE's are a great gun and a bargain at $300.00 with two 16 round magazines. They are made of first rate materials and have a lifetime warranty.Trigger pull is 8lbs from the factory.Nothing else can compete for that price.

Hi-
I bought one in .40 s&w (SW40VE) for $290 new and really like it. It is stainless & black and packs really nice in the excellant Bianchi accumold holster. It's compact on the hip and makes a great mountain motorbike trail companion and fishing carry gun. The trigger is hard, but if you shoot enough it becomes not a problem. My fiancé & daughters think the trigger is too hard, although it does smooth & lighten up after several hundred rounds.
This is becoming my "go-to" mountain gun when I'm out there. I have some others that I covet much more, but for just fooling around in the woods and forgetting it on my hip it's perfect for me as I worry less about scratching or getting wet in the creek and I've gained confidence after shooting a couple 1000 rounds. I plan on buying the SW9VE soon and would recommend it for the cost. I'll try to remember to take a snapshot later and post it with the holster.
Best-Mike
