...how did they manage that? I thought starting in 2006, pistols had to have magazine safeties and also external safeties to be approved?

Did Sig put these features on the 220 Carry, or did they somehow get around this requirement??

I thought it was mag disconnect or loaded chamber indicator or external safety
I'm curious too :scrutiny:

There is a "of similar design" clause in all of that legal mumbo-jumbo that allowed those to be certified without those nasty "features."

Wow, Lunde, that is awesome. I'm thrilled to hear that the P220 Carry doesn't have all those PC garbage contraptions on them. I might just pick one up, now that it is on the "safe" list.

I just noticed that the NAA Gaurdian in .32 acp and .380 acp is about to be added to the CA "Safe" list. This is because they now offer a lock on the gun--too bad they had to put the lock on. However, it is a pistol I've always wanted so I may consider it.

Surefire, the guardian is not going to be added to the list...

Uggh... I misread their site.

That sucks. The NAA is the only decent pocket pistol out there that I know of (The Tomcat is junk IMO).

Anyone have a 220 Carry SAO? If so, how do you like it?

Every time I hear about what is on a governmentally approved list it reminds me of the aftermath of Wake Island in 1942 when the Marines and contractors finally surrendered to the Japanese. They were assembled and read a proclamation announcing that the Emperor in his benificence had decided to let them live as prisoners.

Out of the crowd of Americans came the wry comment, "well, thank the SOB for me."

A few more years and California gun owners will have a radio frequency identification chip (RFID) implanted--"for the children", of course.

Nobody has a Sig 220 Carry SAO? I would have thought that this would be a popular model... ?

Sig P245 carrier here...so maybe I'm just bitter that my carry piece has been replaced.

I plain 'ol don't "get" the 220 carry.

Folks complained the 220 was too big/heavy for everyday concealment, and a popular aftermarket mod is to cut the grips and mags down.

Keydokee, Sig takes notice, and designs the 245 as a cut down 220.

It had a shorter barrel, AND a shorter grip, to make it more of a commander size, which makes sense for a carry piece, seeing as the #1 complaint for concealing the 220 was the handle length.

Lo and behold, anyone with larger than average hands complains that the grips aren't big enough, and the 245 doesn't sell all that well compared to their other compacts.

So THEN what do they do?

The essentially slap the 245 barrel and slide atop a full framed 220 reciever, call it the 220 carry, declare victory, and vacate the field.

Huh?

Slide length is hardly ever the critical issue in concealing a handgun.

With respect to concealability, it's handle length, thickness, and weight, more or less in that order.

So....if you agree with me that the 1" slide length difference doesn't really make a difference to concealability, what advantage does the 220 carry get you?

Pros:

It's a whopping 1.2 ounces lighter than the 220.

Cons:

You lose about 50fps out of the 3.9" barrel...which might be an ok tradeoff for a _compact_ .45, which the 220C is NOT, IMO.

My prediction is that once folks twig to this, the 220 carry sales will be even worse than the 245 sales.

From my point of view, the grip on the P245 was cut down too short for comfort (it wasn't the most comfortable Sig). The selling point for the 220 Carry is that (hopefully) the grip is the same as the 220. I didn't care for the feel of the reduced 245 grip...

This is why I was hoping that the 220 Carry would have the same grip as a standard 220?

Why not just get a standard 220? Well, the SAO only model is NOT approved for sale in CA...

Geek,

I had a P245, and even though I have small hands, I found the grip to be odd. It should have been a 7-shot pistol. IMHO. The P220c will now have a short barrel and a big grip. It's like Sig keeps missing the sweet spot. That said I'd like a P220c(I carry a P220R at work) because I can hide the grip under a jacket and 8+1 ain't too shabby.

My MA compliant Seecamps are marked California Edition so using my spurious powers of deductive reasoning,I'm assuming that you can buy one there.I don't know if you have +/- experience with them, but my pair work very well.
