I am thinking of buying a Bushmaster A3 with a detachable scope. But, I would like to shoot with iron sights some of the time. Has anybody used iron sight "flip-ups" or do you have any other suggestions?

I have this set-up also.
I shoot the iron sights and have it scoped on a 1/2 inch B-square riser also.It shoots good on the 100 yard range.I haven't tried it beyond that.I've heard 300 yards is about all you'll get out of the 16"bbl.
I also have the 24" V-match upper and the flip front and rear sights.
I shoot the local long range matches here with that configuration (500 yards).Hits paper every time and I need to work on technique in order to be better.
I'm very pleased with the Bushmaster set-up.Am also interested in putting in a JP comp 2 stage trigger next. There are cheaper alternatives.
I'd rather pay the money up front, and keep running to the end, myself.

Thanx for the input. So, you have no real problem using front and rear flip-ups. Any particular brand or just go with Bushmaster?

I use KAC flipsups front and rear. You can buy them from mstn.biz.

Your best bet would be an ARMS #38 extended. It is a riser to get the scope up to a more managable level, and has possibly the best flip up BUIS on the market.

The ARMS #40 is pretty much the same BUIS, but does not have the riser. I'd recommend the riser for a better cheek weld.

Also, depending on what scope you want, ARMS probably make mounts for it. If you are going for a standard Leupold or other such scope, I'd recommend the #22 rings in the appropriate height. If you're getting an ACOG, Reflex, or Aimpoint, they make mounts for those, as well. All of their mounts have a non-marring quick detach system that works better that any other quick detach system I've seen.

As for front sights, the KAC and PRI sights are pretty much the standard, although GGG makes some, too.
