Hi, all you surplus shooters out there. I want to buy two surplus rifles:

1. Swiss Schmidt-Rubin (sp?);

2. Finnish full-length Mosin-Nagant.

Can anyone advise me where one can get the best examples? I want shooters, not wallhangers, but I don't mind paying a bit extra for a really good specimen, one that will clean up nicely and look good. Also, can anyone recommend good sources for ammunition? Finally, what are the sources to AVOID (for both rifles and ammo)?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I hear the K31s at AIM are pretty much the last few they have and are showing it. Century Arms can be hit or miss, but I bought two K31s and a Mosin 91/30 from them last week and was quite pleased. The K31s actually looked to be in better condition than one I bought a few months ago when there were still a lot of them out there.

Just got the SOG ad today, and they have some of both the rifles you're looking for. If you're looking for prime examples that you want to shoot to, you should also take a look at Allan's Armory and Empire Arms.

Ben (and others), could you please provide Web links or other contact info for these resellers?

Wholesale Guns and Ammo(http://www.gunsnammo.com/) is the place for Finnish M/39s. I've got two from them and they are just beautiful.

I never bought from them, but FGS Inc. (http://www.fgsinc.8m.com/) is supposed to have some very nice K-31s.

I'll tell ya though, most of the die hard collectors scout the dark corners of gun stores and pawn shops. That's where the real jewels come from, but you gotta do your research on what you're looking for first.

Aim is selling them right now. I think they are offering free shipping also, good luck.

Gotta second the Wholesale Guns recommendation. Check out their website, they have select M-39's described fairly faithfully. Their shooters seem reasonably priced, too. I bought mine from them (unissued Sako), and it's gorgeous. Gotta love the blotchy grain in the furniture. Don't forget the sling, either--they're kinda hard to find. I believe they're selling them for about $10. Good luck. :)
