Whack'em & Stack'em: Going Postal for K-9 Considered 'Fowl' Play

Report by J.J. Johnson - Sierra Times.com

And let this be a lesson to the rest of you geese from the Great White North. Never attack a officer of the law during his morning curbing. Remember: Canadian Geese have no civil rights.
Indianapolis, Indiana - In another apparent case of 'suicide by cop', a Canadian Goose bought the farm by sticking his nose in where it didn't belong.

The Whack

According to the Indianapolis Star, Indianapolis Police Officer Mitch Waters was letting his K-9 partner take care of business when a goose, trying to protect a nearby nest, swooped over a fence and nipped at the dog's nose.

It got ugly. Waters opened fire.

Then comes the common phrase of the classic Whack & Stack: "He did what he thought he had to do to protect his dog," said spokesman Lt. Paul Ciesielski of the Indianapolis Police Department.

The goose had it coming, as it was 'clear' the dog's life was in imminent danger.

That's right folks, when it comes to that thin blue line, no one (especially a goose) has the right to protect their own home.

But this story has a twist. Waters could be in trouble, too. His supervisor has recommended a one-day suspension for unnecessary use of a firearm in the April 13 shooting. No comment from Waters.

The Stack

The Indianapolis Star said there are more than 100,000 Maple Leaf Geese in Indiana, and they've have found Indiana a great place to settle down and raise families. And with that, they must demonized the poor birds to make this 'fowl' execution seems justified. Here goes:

"But they are messy and highly aggressive around their nests -- traits that sparked several run-ins this month."

"..Two condo owners were investigated after allegedly destroying nests, and a Plainfield man was treated at a hospital after being knocked to the ground and pecked bloody by two geese guarding their eggs.

"...The birds have become such a headache that state officials persuaded federal authorities to grant 1,800 permits to destroy goose nests this year....

Yes, clearly a threat to public safety. Thus, the birds must die. But don't expect the Animal Liberation Front to begin torching local Indiana police precincts in protest. A clear message has been sent to the Geese population: "Watch out for pistol packin' K-9's". When they are taking a dump outside, they are only doing their 'dooty'.
