Now that pricing is very similar, my decision of Aimpoint or Eotech for my AR has been scewed (again). So, which is the better buy now?
I'm looking for accuracy, reliability, dependability, cool and best value.

My recommendation is to try both and then decide. In the dozens and dozens of times I've seen this question, the "accuracy, reliability, dependability, cool and value" ends up about the same, with some people declaring one or the other to be vastly superior, citing examples of how the other exploded and ripped about the time-space continuum during a training class.

My thoughts are that they are both pretty good and it is very subjective. I've shot with both and whlie they are different, I couldn't say which is definately better.

That said, my dad has trouble shooting a regular Bushnell red dot on my pistol. Just can't get used to it. I don't know if it's old eyes with continuous bifocals or just old habits, but it doesn't for him. However, he was able to take right to an EOTech on a rifle after just a couple of shots.

Again, if you can, try both, then see which one you like. Or, get one now and get the other later. What, you don't have two rifles to mount them on? Better fix that too. :)

Eotech is great because I have one.
Aimpoint is no good because I don't have one.
But I want one.
So it must be OK.
Any questions?

I personnaly had an aimpoint attached to my my service weapon for a year in Iraq, so i have much experience with them, cqb trainning, reflexive, and actually using it in qual's. i like them but i like the Eotech better. the eo-tech is what i have on my personal m4. I have also done the same type trainning with the eotch in my own terms and out of pocket.
In my opinion.....

PRO's of Eotech
1) 1 moa dot.
2) 65 moa outer circle for extreme close quater engagements. (approx, man size at 100 meters, helps in range finding.)
3) Hash marhs at the 3,6,9, and 12 o'clock positions for leading moving targets.
4) Wider variety of battery choices. I personally use AA batteries because they are cheaper and easier to get a hold of.
5) With the eotech you don't have to buy a mount just the sight and put her on there and you are ready to rock.
6) now they make flip up lens covers for them as well.
7) i prefer the single square screen to the tube type.

Pro's to the Aimpoint
1) honeycombs for cutting down on flash, from reflections.
2) battery last a very long time.
3) esaier to turn off, just rotates the dial instead of having to use both fingers like the eotech.
4) the quick detach mounts are extrememly nice and are a good thing to have in case it goes down, you can rip it off real quick.

Con's to the Aimpoint
1) having to buy a mount especially a good one adds to the total cos, costing you more.
2) 4 moa dot good for cqb, but it really spreads out your grouping at the longer ranges.
3) when mounting the optic on the mount, it is like a scope, you have to make sure everything is straight and that it dosen't roll around during the last few turns of the lock nuts.

That is all i can think of right now, but that is from my professional and personal experience and opinion. i have gone with and recommened that you go with the eo-tech!

They're both good, but I personally prefer the EOTech. I like the window to the tube, and as the earlier poster said, the EOTech reticle brings a good deal to the table for CQB and longer range shooting.

Look at the Russian PK AS . $200 buys a military black dot/red dot sight. I moa dot surrounded by a 60 moa ring. Does not need power to operate on black dot mode. Available with a weaver rail mount. An amazing sight. Very clear and crisp. Check tantals website for details.

I knew i forgort something, that 3x magnifier is a sweet piece of equipment. Sounds like you have a nice set-up.

Another vote for the Eotech. I have and use both. The Eotech just seems more useful. I like that big fat circle for CQB drills, and the little teeny centered dot for precision shooting. It's the best of both worlds.

I have Aimpoint and Trijicon Reflex II with the chevron. Never bought
an EOT because the specs showed far shorter battery life compared to
the 10's of 1000s of hours for the Aim and the 20 years for the Trij's
tritium element (not mention that it is ON all the time). BTW, the
mil-issue Reflex also has a cylume option. Shouldn't be a probelm to
re-work for an LED 20 years from now like they did with all those dead
FAL optics. By then, maybe we'll be using a new power source or be
throwing stones....who knows....

The Aim's red dot is easier on my eye, but it seems to me that the Trij
and the EOT both hood and protect the optical glass better. You have
more mounting options with the Aim after you add in one of many aftermarket
mounts, but the Trij takes up less room. A plus for the EOT is the AA batts,
and you'll need that easy replacement option for it since it's an SUV when it
comes to guzzling battery life versus the other two. BTW, the trij has a
fiber optic natural light-gathering backup.

No, I don't get kick-backs from Trij for advertising :D

I'm also of the "try both and then decide" camp.

For me, that wound up being the EoTech by a very wide margin.

The EOTech 512 is rated for 1100 hours with AA batteries. Even if you only got half that life and you used it 8 hours a day every day, you'd only go through 5 pairs of batteries for the year.

For someone like me who has it on 8 hours a week if I'm lucky, I'm probably looking at having to swap out batteries every other year.
