Did I screw up!?

I bought a glock with standard white sights. Should I have sprung for the upgrade at retail or can I still get a good deal after-market?
I like these sights, but I hear need to find some tritium and possibly a laser.
Any suggestions?

I've had more Glocks than I've had women. And I've had a lot of women :neener:
I like the style of the standard white sights myself, but I never had much luck with them. Tritium 3-dots seem to have a lot of luck (standard law enforcement-grade night sights) and you can get a good after-market set for around $100 installed.
I've recently grown fond of the company Heinie Specialty Products--they make some damned fine sights. I'd suggest their products, too.
I wouldn't say you NEED night sights, though many will argue this. It does help target accquisition at night and therefore slightly better shots on average, but on the rare occasion you get in a firefight --at night-- and need to use your Glock, what are the chances that you'll be engaging multiple targets and at a distance? And even so, are you going to take the time in such an event to line up the night sights before you fire?
--If you like the sights you have then keep them. Defensive shooting should be done reactionary and therefore the lining-up of the night sights should be done during practice. Real life situations don't afford that time. And even then, the most likely scenario is you being mugged in which case the gentleman/gentlemen are unlikely to be doing so from 20 feet away and behind cover. So you should be fine with the white sights you have as long as you learn how to use them. I'd rather have the night sights than not, out of principle, but I'm not one to drop another hundred+ for them, personally. You didn't screw up, you did just fine.
Good luck and congrats on your purchaes of a quality firearm!

Very sound thinking, sir. Thanks for your well put reply. I think I'll just get good with these sights and forgo the C-note toy with little practical purpose. You're right, I think, in theory they are good, in practice they are a hundred dollar "heated seat in a Mercedes" ..... nice to have but useless in a car wreck.
BTW. It's a 36 ... I love the grip and the way it shoots is soooo smooth, folow ups just seem to happen automatically.:D My first of many more Glocks I fear:cool: :uhoh:
Thanks gang.

In my experience, all I needed night sights for was to find my pistol when I open the drawer in the dark
Oh, you didn't screw up ;)

if you wear night vision, are you able to see these night sight dots?

With night vision, night sights look like regular 3 dot sights, but its hard to focus on anything small at close range with those babies on...
For the record, at least the models I've messed with, night vision sucks more than they portray in the movies.
At least these have been my experiences...

how visible are they? I was wondering if you can spot it from a distance.

I don't have a lot of first hand experience with night sights at a distance with night vision on, but from the limited experience I do have is that they will be no more visible than the regular dots. So at a distance, even with night vision on, you won't notice them. You'll see the person holding the pistol looong before the night sights tip you off.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but that's been my experience.
