I am a CCR and got a flyer from a gun distributor. Among the typical SKS, Mausers, WASR's, etc., they listed "Shooters Arms" 1911 copies. One is a basic 1911M A1, the other for a few dollars more of a tweaked 1911 with skelaton trigger, etc.

Does anyone know anything about "Shooters Arms" ? Good, Bad, indifferent?

Thanks in advance.

I have a S.A.M. Elite. It worked when a friends Colt refused to. :)

Meval,

Thanks. Yes I did a search. I did find some stuff. Also known as SAMS. No one says they are bad guns. People's comments run from "good for the money"...to..."very happy with it..."

Are parts interchangeable with other 1911's?

I don't actually know for sure yet. After market grips fit, pachmayr wrap arounds. It also fits a Forbus holster well.

The finish is very nice and it shoots well so far. I want to get a guide rod and better sights for it but just noticed the high cap .45 they have and will probably try and get one of those.

You can throw the included magazine in the trash, it's crap, metal is mild steel and not heat treated and even if you get it adjusted it will not hold.
I picked up a GI one and it works.

There higher end models may come with some of these.

I ran up to Cabella's and had a chance to examine the SAMS Elite. They also had a Kimber Custom II (I think) - I examined the Kimber right after the Elite. That Elite has a nice trigger. How do the SAMS stack up against the Rock Island's - also made in Phillipines?

I got that flyer from Century too!:) I've heard good things from Century's previous run on them. Heck, for an extra $100 though you can get the new Taurus 1911 fully loaded. I've heard nothing but good things from those who have gotten one of these. Also STI International is joining up with Armscor to produce a new 1911. Suppossed to be Armscor frame and slide with STI parts inside made in the Phillippines. Called STI and a sales rep said the MSRP was $635, so at the dealer they should run in the mid- 5's.

Longhorn,

I'm also looking in to the Rock Island. I'm going to start a new thread on that. But like I said - the Elite had a nice trigger - nice finish.

Probably a stupid question but are their thumb safeties cast, forged, or milled?

(I know it has to be cast parts but maybe I'll get lucky)

I'm always on the look out for decent quality early style GI thumb safeties. They and the knurled triggers seem to be the hardest to come across.
