a friend of mine recommend me a telescope-Zeiss 8X20,said high price-quality ratio. I guess I really need a telescope to recognize the game before I fire in case I got wrong animal:confused:

Do you hunt at 1000+ yds?
I think you're freing wants you to go broke for nothing.
I'll give you a few guidelines and I think others will agree:
Pure woods hunting: no more than 3x9
Woods and some 200-300yd shots occasionally: 4x12
Feild and plains hunting 300 or more yards: 4.5x14
Small varmints and other small game past 300: maybe more than 4.5x14 but not for me. An 8x20 would screw you in the woods.

Depends on the animal and the distance. For a deer up to 300 yards a 4x is plenty IMO. For close range shots you want quick target aquisition.
For varmints, that Zeiss is a good suggestion.

sorry,I didn't state clearly...my friend just suggested me to buy a telescope for observation, not for mounting on rifle(for that one,I had my heart set on leupold rifleman 3-9x 40mm:D but I guess maybe rangefinder is more useful tool...

like a spotting scope or something of that variety? my dad and I went halfsies on a Nikon 16-48x65. it's nice to set up in camp and look for signs of game from a distance.
my $0.02, if you're getting started, get a good scope on your rifle and a good pair of binoculars before you go for the fancier optics. you'll get more use out of them.

my $0.02
You don't really need a spotting scope as long as you are not in high country.
Get a 3x9-50 or 56mm. Then you will have enough field view to recognize your game.
Get this Nikon Scope. You will like it.
