Are the Colt series 70, without the firing pin lock, for sale in California. I think the Springfield milspec does not have one and it is legal in California. Or should I just realize nothing makes sense here?

Yes and no.
Legal yes in that it's not banned and you can PPT it, but no as you can't buy it from your local dealer as it's not 'approved'. :banghead:
yeah, I know. I'm looking for that out of state job so I can get one too.

Same with the KelTec P-32 - I'm desperately seeking one that is already inside the state - my only bet to buy one.

Ditto on the Kel Tec. I jsut bought an Colt Enhanced .45 from a private party this weekend, mostly because I understood that what you could buy here is very limited. Plus a private party sale isn't subject to the one gun a month rule--Rob

To be legal to sell in Cali., the gun must be submitted AND pass the drop tests. Maybe Colt will submit one for testing.
My understanding is that the Keltec won't pass the drop test.
The Old Colt Series 70 are legal for PTP deal that are within KALI. If your talking about the new Series 70 reissue then no it isn't, not on the approved list. A Colt insider has stated that there are no plans to submit it for testing in Kali

Ok, so it's the manufacturer that needs to submit it for tests, not just a law stating it has to have a certain safety feature(firing pin block). I really wanted a series 70 Colt but I guess now it's between a Springfield milspec and the series 80 Colt. Thanks

Sounds like the new 70 will never be legal in CA. I know the older 70 series can definitely fire in a drop. And I know some shooters prefer the trigger action of the 70 versus the 80 (I'll have to try the Kimber II system too). I have an old well-used 70 and I've been thinking of selling it PTP to help buy new projectile toys.

CA folks, why look any further than the Valtro?

Official Valtro Website (http://www.ValtroUSA.com)
Built in Italy, tuned in Hayward. Beat the Wilson CQB in "Gun Tests" as best value... $1300, feels and shoots like a $2K+ gun.
My favorite weapon, hands down. Best customer service I've ever experienced in any industry, period.

Sven, Do you know of any good 1911 smiths in the Bay Area? Also who carries the Valtros around here? I work in Hayward and live in Antioch. --OneShot

I am working on a website for Jardine's Custom... guess what, the man behind Valtro also does 1911 pistolsmithing....
Contact numbers for now are the same that can be found on Valtrousa.com.
Some of his work has recently been posted here and can be found under ENHANCEMENTS on the valtro pages.
Hope this helps you.
Charles
PS: No firing pin lock on the Valtro...

Charles nailed it.
Jardine is the man for 1911 work.

An addition:
The work of Jardine's that I've seen looks for very good, but I've only shot one of his pistols.
I'm probably pretty prejudiced on this but Doug McDougall, now running McDougall Firearms Specialties (formerly one half of Scott, McDougall & Associates) is an excellant 'smith. Doug - who I grew up with & have been friends with for about 14 years now - has built my duty / carry Gov't models, Commander and Mustang. Doug's illness was quite a significant issue, but he's just about done with the treatment and has the shop back up & running.
