Hi,
I guess I am in the need of a scope. I just got a call from one of my buddies apparently he just lost 3 foals to Coyotes over the last week. so I offer my services! hehe:evil: so I am not sure how far out they will be but I have a busy m4 and I need to get a good scope! Its a .223 with a 1/9 twist mostly use for plinkin but may be in situation like this again in the future. So any input would be great!

Pass on the super cheep stuff.I myself like the Leupold but can't afford them for all my guns.Leupold makes a "Rifleman" line that is pretty reasonable--starting at around $200. I would think you don't want real hiigh power as some /most of your shots will be when the yote is moveing.
I have had pretty good luck with some of the Simmons scopes, avoid their very cheep lines,go to one of the discount outfits (midway ,natches) amd spend at least $100 to get into the beter simmons lines.
I have gotten excelent accuracy with the Winchester "45gr Varmint 3600fps" load from wallmart . It has been super accurate in all my 1/9 chrome lined barrels. This stuff is pretty cheep at $14 a box of 40 and outshoots all the $20 a box of 20 ammo I have tried. 45gr might be a bit light I am not a hunter

Well, it depends on what distance your shots will be at. If ur shooting at 100+yds, id suggest a scope in the 4-6x range. If ur looking at sub 100yd. shots, u can do what i did. I have a Bushy 16" HBAR in A2 config. I installed a Nikon 1x20 scope. Yes, u heard right, 1x. Its great for close range. Its great for mid range( 50-100yds.). Out past 100yds, things get a little harder to target super accurately. At 100yds, with my 1x, i can roll soda cans for fun no problem. Also, cost isnt that bad. U get Nikon quality for about $99 at Natchez. Note: $99 is for the refurbished scope. Mine is a refurb and i have zero trouble with it at all.

I also own a 16-inch Bushy AR with the fixed carrying handle and am interested in a good but inexpensive scope. Have you found that with a scope on an A2-configured AR, is some sort of cheekpad recommended? I've seen what looks like a good one in Bushmaster's catalog...seems in theory like you'd want one for proper cheekweld, but I have no experience to back that up.

Thanks for any and all input!

My Nikon 1x is carry handle mounted and i dont see anything wrong with it. There is no such thing as cheek weld with a carry handle mounted scope. More of a jaw weld. The jaw weld works just fine for me. I also may add that my Bushy has a collapsable stock too. I can always get 3/4" groups at 50yds with my 1x scope and just about any cheap ammo. Yes, my gun is far more accurate than that. When i had my 3-9x mounted, i was looking through the scope at 1/2" 50yd groups. I just prefer the 1x20 for general shooting needs. It can be used for CQB, hunting or target use. I also like the fact that unlike most other 1x options such as red dots, this scope doesnt use batteries and it has about a 2moa crosshair section.

C-More 4x fixed excellent little scope for about $175-200. Similar to the Colt scopes that were available a while back. Nice clear compact, yardage adjustable to 600+yds. I have an extra one if interested in box all papers. Warranty etc.. Thanks

I have had this 3x to 9x variable Weaver Classic (http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=287719) on a couple of my AR's. It's very clear, holds it's zero great and wasn't pricy at all. I liked it so much, I bought a couple more Weavers for some of my other rifles.

I also just bought this Bushnell 1x-4x (http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=599425) for my 7.62x39 carbine (http://home.mchsi.com/~davidkoch/myarms/762x39_AR.jpg). I love the ability to zoom out to no magnification at all. The circle around the x in the reticle makes it really nice for snap shots with a handy carbine.

I mounted both of them using these Armalite one piece mounts (http://www.armalite.com/sales/catalog/components/mounts_rings.htm)(EX0027). The mount is very solid, sturdy, easily detachable and retains it's zero when removed. Here's a pic of the Weaver and Armalite mount on one of my carbines:

CDNN also has the Hakko Colt-style carry handle 4x21mm scopes. Hakko was the OEM for Colt. I have one of the non-illuminated ones and it has good optics. I ordered another one with the illuminated reticle for use on my Colt AR-15A3.

I've had scoped AR's with and without the cheek piece, and the cheek piece definitely makes a difference.
